  1. Hi there, I swear by my Crocs. I bought a pair of Nike Shox when they came out paid almost $200 and they were worn out and uncomfortable in 3-4mths. I have been wearing crocs ever since. I think for $35 they are a much better investment and I can sterilize they easily!
  2. All I can say is that COMPLETELY sucks Larry!!! I would be going insane! I got my started date on Friday for Orientation and I start all that on April 11/06. It all transpired a littel faster than I could have ever anticipated! Hoping you hear back ASAP!!! Be sure to let us know immediately! Will be thinking of you and sending get the job vibes!!!
  3. Well I went for the interview and within hours I had formally be offered the job! YEAH I am so excited. They have 2 OBS rooms that are tele monitored which I think we great to work in, I am sure that it will be a LONG time before I get into them...unless I am more qualified than others! Anyways thanks for the pointers and to all the ppl that post on here cause I gained a lot of insight from this board that really made it easier to go in for the interview!
  4. For most of the ICU's in Toronto they will require you to have your Critical Care Training. Some will hire nurses that do not have the specific Critical Care course and put them through it but you are then obligated by contract to that hospital for usually a minimum of 1 year. I do not know of any facility that hires new grads most want you to have some experience. I know the hospital I am at (which is the biggest center in Toronto) they do prefer you to have experience related to the type of ICU your are looking to apply to. Example: CVICU they like you to have worked on the Cardiac Post Op floor for approx 2 years, CRCU they like you to have a medical surgical background. NICU (Neuro) they like you to have worked on the Neuro floor.....I think you get what I am saying. By MSN are you referring to a Master's of Nursing? Speaking for most nurses around me, if we had a Master's there is NO way we would be working bedside. I find most nurses that have more than their BScN are not looking to do floor nursing, they are looking for managment, teaching and so on. Yes in Canada you have to have a minimum of a Bachelor's to obtain licensure to practice in any of the provinces. Hope I have helped to answer some of your questions, feel free to ask me anymore specfics if you have them, or for clarification if I have not been clear enough. Cheers, A
  5. I have read back over several posts just to see what has been said to others but many seem to be new grads or have worked in the ER in some capacity. I am a Cardiac Nurse by specialty that has always wanted to be an ER Nurse. I am interviewing for a ER position tomorrow. What kind of scenario's do you think I will be quizzed on? I am already to get Cardiac question's it is the other stuff that is kind of overwhelming!! Any advice anyone can give would be thoroughly appreciated. I have been studying my Critical Care text's as well as A&P what else should I have a good look over? Thanks to all that help me out! Cheers, A

Having had this happen to me several times what I do is your #2...2) Don't call MD as it is the middle of the night and pt is asymptomatic but print the strip and place on the chart so he will see during rounds. However if we have to call the MD for anything else I will notify him then and I also make the in charge aware and the other staff that is on to watch, print and check if I am busy. Also by letting them know what is going on they are not going to get all freaked out if it occurs and they see it. I firmly believe if the pt is asymptomatic then I need not wake the MD and just chart about each occurence and make sure that the MD is made aware as soon as he/she steps foot on the floor in the am. HTH!
