I work at a VA hospital where the first day I worked on the unit, at least 3 nurses told me how they hated their job. Two were RN's with a BSN. When I asked why they chose nursing if they didn't like this kind of work, they said that they could not get it to the program they really wanted. Nursing is a hard enough job, be sure of what you want. Don't let others influence your decision, because in the end, you will be the one to acually do the work. Good Luck.

My son and I started school at the same time this year. He in his senior year in high school at 17, me as an LVN student at 48. I have 2 weeks left and the only thing I regret is not having done it sooner. By the way, I will be going on to get my RN and I will be 50+ by then. Am I too old? Well, I have 4 children 3 dogs, a husband, have had diabetes for 18 years, and HTN for 3. The only thing I can say is NO NO NO!!!! If we are going to teach our patients the importance of not giving up (on feeling better), what better way that teaching by example. To all of you out there that are thinking of doing something, whether it be go back to school, take a trip, change jobs, etc., do not give up. You have the rest of your life to enjoy it.
