I have been an RN in Los Angeles since 2017. I have worked in a community hospital and at the VA on the floors. I worked procedures and then outpatient. I am now nursing faculty and work in the community. It took a long time to get to where I am now. There was a lot of stress, frustration, exhaustion, and heartache involved. My first 3 years were a lot to handle. I look back and feel two ways about those 3 years: 1) I wish I had a better experience, maybe I would been more confident and competent as a nurse quicker for myself and my patients and 2) without what I went through I would not be where I am now, I wouldn't have the clear vision of where I want my career to go. I am curious how new graduate nurses are finding their experiences now. I know that during Covid many had non-traditional experiences in school. I also know that during Covid, when I was in the ICU taking care of Covid patients the new grad nurses that I worked with got an accelerated experience in nursing as we unofficially employed team nursing to care for our patients. How is it out there everyone? Are we back to the new-grad experience prior to Covid? Or, is that no longer the case as post Covid life has changed so much in healthcare?
