Emergency Medical Care
Thank you for responding. I haven't yet, although I had an aneurysm scare a few months ago (turned out to be benign), and my DON said I would never be the only nurse in the building, I have her text message stating that and I have forwarded it to my HR and ADON (DON is on maternity leave), and up until the stroke, I was consistently the only RN/LN in the building, often short on aides. I really feel betrayed by them especially since I forwarded them the message. I will definitely be asking my PCP for restrictions and I will ask about their contingency plans... thank you for responding!

Recent Stroke, TIA's with Ischemic Changes and CKD Stage 3

Emergency Medical Care
HI again, I recently posted about my recent health issues which have included a gastric/duodenal resection with bypass for stenosed ulcers, recent stroke and CKD stage 3. I am currently on medical leave but my PCP has doubts about clearing me. I am frequently the only LN in the building along with a handful of aides for a 72 bed facility and I am worried about having another crisis at work and being incapacitated and requiring EMS support. Our on-call staff can be less than responsive and a few of them have reported staff for calling them to HR and ADON, a couple flat out refuse to come in. This terrifies me, especially if I have another stroke and can't find a nurse to come in. Any suggestions on how to deal with this will be greatly appreciated! Kat

Recent Stroke, TIA's with Ischemic Changes and CKD Stage 3
Hi there, I have been practicing in SN/LTC since 2013 and over the past few years my health has started to decline, last year I had stenosed duodenal/gastric ulcers that required resection and roux en y bypass, and two weeks ago I had a stroke and discovered I have CKD Stage 3. I am absolutely terrified to return to bedside nursing since I am frequently the only LN in my building with a handful of aides. Are there any roles that are not bedside that I can easily transition to? I had planned on retiring as a bedside nurse and had not planned on training in another specialty. All advice welcomed! Thank you, Kat
