"Just an LPN"....does anyone else get discouraged?
Just a little info....in Ontario, Canada, the word " nurse " is protected by the College of Nurses and may only be used to describe an RN or an RPN .

Respect must be earned. This can be done by using each opportunity you have to explain the difference in the scope of practice between Rn's and Lpn's. This does not need to be a lengthy lecture, but if everyone acts as if their role is insignificant, then that's how you will be seen by the client's. Nursing is a shared profession and one level compliments the other in different ways, at different times. I have been an ®Lpn for over twenty years and this problem has always been around, if you choose to be an Lpn, hold your head up high and do your chosen profession proud !!

Gift
Our company policy is not to accept any gifts, but if the circumstances are such that you just cannot turn down an offering, we are to call into our co-ordinator with all the details and then this info is put in our HR file. Then if sometime down the road a family member accuses the nurse of theft, all the info about the gift etc. has been documented. Now if the gift offered was money or something of value, the nurse would be expected to gently but firmly refuse. The last gift I was given was a used puppy nap sack for my new chihuahua ! And it is duly noted in my HR file.
