Hey everyone, just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone thinking of moving from NZ to the US.
I have a valid NZ nursing license and worked there for 2 years. After getting married, I moved to the US with my husband and honestly, the whole process of transferring my NZ license here has been exhausting and super time-consuming.
I started with CGFNS, and they flagged deficiencies in OB and Peds (both clinical + theory). Finding a school that would let me take just those two courses was a struggle on its own becoz most places wanted me to either do an ADN or restart a full BSN, which felt so discouraging. After a lot of searching, I finally found a university that let me complete just those courses, which took me about a semester (6 months).
Then came another setback, my CGFNS application had expired, so I had to restart the whole process. Months later, I was hoping to finally move forward, but they flagged the same deficiencies again. When I told them I completed those courses in the US, they said they only evaluate international education and don't consider US coursework for that part.
So I went to the BON with my US transcripts, and now I've been waiting almost a month for them to review everything. It's just been one long, frustrating loop.
I'm sharing this so anyone planning the move can really plan ahead, this process takes a lot of time, money, and patience. Right now I'm just hoping BON clears me to sit for NCLEX.
Also, I've heard NY BON can be more lenient, but not all states accept the same things, so definitely look into that early.
Just... think it through and plan ahead. I really hope it's all worth it in the end ?
