  1. My first code was a nightmare and my supporting staff did nothing to help me in this situation. My patient was intubated and sedated when it happened, I was in the room, and I heard the alarm. Immediately, I recognized the rhythm and my heart dropped. I froze, I could not speak, I could not move. Other nurses came immediately and one of them hit the code button. None of the other four nurses jumped in at this point. It was about 15 seconds before I started compressions, then the physician and staff from other units came to help. We got ROSC very quickly, the physician said his no flow time was around 15 seconds. I had another person (not from my unit) in the room with the physician and I afterward when we were starting other meds, but I could hear everyone in the hallway (the charge nurse, the other nurses, etc) talking about how I didn't ask for help or even say anything. I was still shaken up, but trying to proceed as normal. I explained that this was my first code and the charge nurse proceeded to scream at me two separate times afterward in the middle of the unit. No one helped me the rest of the night. At shift change, I heard the physician tell the oncoming physician how flustered and nervous I was. When he saw I was listening, he told the other physician to step behind the curtain. Does anyone else have similar experiences or know of any similar experiences? This was literally the worst day of my life. Obviously, I know what to do in a code, I took my ACLS....but there's nothing like experiencing it the first time.
