  1. Hi Kala, I am sorry you are going through this and it's understandable you are upset and trying to get your bearings. I think anyone who has ever been sick could relate to the idea of the disruption this has caused you. First of all: wow. They really did not offer you much advice how to rectify or resolve this did they. Does your school have a process to appeal the decision? Is there a Provost office or office of academic affairs? An Ombudsman office? I know this may not comfort you but I know of a medical student that has the same situation. Went to another medical school and the illness happened again and the student was forced to withdraw or take a hiatus a second time. She, too, was devastated and crestfallen at the idea of a lifetime of hard work seemingly lost and for nothing. Regardless of your schools academic renewal policy, I would say that your time has NOT been wasted and that you have much academic training now that will serve you well no matter WHAT you pursue. Is it possible to transfer your units to an affordable/ local program to try and offset additional school expenses? I know that in my area we have a community college(s) that offer the RN training at low to no cost. Have you considered doing a smaller job like phlebotomy or LVN or tech while you regroup (during the gap created during the application cycle) and you await new programs to start? Regardless, I think you have positive routes to look to and recognize all is not lost, you ARE valuable. Things happen and generally that's why there are usually policies in police to protect your academic investment. If all else fails, consider contacting the accrediting body for your school to verify that the laid out academic policies of the institution were correctly adhered to. Best of luck as you forge ahead on your new journey.
