Wow, I thought I only had this problem. I am 33, married to the best husband in the world. I've been with my husband for over 13 yrs but, married for only 2 yrs. and no kids yet. I've been a CNA on and off for 13yrs. and tried other jobs in the mean time. ( medical billing, dental asst. ect. ) Lost intrest and they did not pay well and/or employers wanting more exp. I don't come from a highly educated family, just regular blue collar workers. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. My parents never really pushed college and also never had the money to help with a better education. I recently told my parents that I was thinking about LPN schooling and try and make it to RN. My dad said it would be great but really didn't get the whole process and as for my mother she didn't even acknowledge what I said. OUCH, that hurt. In conversation with my husband and telling him the response he turned to me and said, that my mother simply does not want me to be better than her and you know, I think he is right. It all started to make sense. That is when I finally realized why I have no confidence and never completed alot of things in my life. It was sad that I got no encouragement from her. Please, don't get me wrong, I love both my parents very much and had a healthy up-bringing. But I just think my mom has issues with her own past and maybe not doing what she has always wanted. I don't know. As her response left me with no confidence once again, it frustrates me and is pushing me even more just to prove a point and to someday say, " See, I did it " As for my husband, he gives me all the encouragement I need and thinks I would make a great nurse.

Hi MAnursehopeful, Thanks so much for responding. Congrats on getting into the lpn program. How do you like the program? I here it's pretty intense but worth it. Are you working while going to school? Just think in a few more months you'll be all done. Are you going to work in a LTC facility when you graduate? I work in a local nursing home as a CNA, and have been an aide off and on for over 13 yrs. My back is getting to old for all the heavy lifting that is required. So it's time to further my education and give my poor back a break. LOL I have a lot of pre entrance gitters as it's been too long being out of school. Hi Lori, I like LTC as well, but can be stressful at times. Hospitals are not bad either. How long have you been a nurse? Did you start as an LPN or RN. I have to take the longer route due to finances and time frames. (not getting any younger and would like to start a family before the age of 40 LOL) I have pre entrance GITTERS:eek: I have to do lots of refreshing as its been a while. Also trying to build the confidence level as well!!! Do you have a nursing shortage where you are as well??? I find out here in MA. the shortage is pretty intense. When working in the hospital I saw alot of nurses changing careers within five years do to the stress of the job. Is this the same in your area??? Well, chat with you soon Kermmie

Does anyone have any info. on the pre entrance exam for LPN at Quincy Ma. college ??? What should I study? Is their cut off dates in taking the test? or can you test anytime? I Know some schools only have so many test dates in a yrs time. How long is the test? Are you given enough time to take the test? Lots of ?????'s I know, trust me I have alot more :) Thanks, Kermmie

Hello to all! Not to sure if I'm doing this correctly, so please consider this a test. Trying navigate my way around, so I pre-appologize for any mistakes. I'm a CNA in a LTC facility and have been an aide off and on for 13yrs. At the ripe age of 33 I'm now looking into the LPN program at Quincy college (plymouth campus full time) and have lots of ????'s. I've browsed the forums but, it seems to be all old info. 2003, 2004, 2005, ect... Anyone out there that can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a Bunch :mad:KERMMIE
