  1. Sounds like good advice, but is this possible in this day and age of electronic charting and records and cloud computing? Even without insurance, wouldn't it show up eventually?
  2. Can seeking therapy or counseling affect a nurse's ability to get a job? I have been going through a difficult time, and keep considering therapy. But many friends and family members discourage this because they worry it would affect my ability to get a job. I tried reaching out to counselors and mental health professionals and asked them if they knew if future employers would even be able to discover that I sought mental health support, but they do not know. It seems to me that it would be a HIPAA violation, but I don't know if it could show up in a background check in someway. My most trusted source even tells me "I think it would depend on the employer." I can't get a straight answer, maybe there isn't one. It seems like in this day and age where mental health is such a huge topic, and we are all supposed to be encouraged to reach out, that it would be looked at as a good thing that a nurse knew when she needed help, especially after "burnout" made the news during the pandemic. But I don't need added problems on top of the problems I have when I discover later that I cannot get the job I want simply because I asked for help. Does anyone have any insight, or a clear answer to this question? Thanks.
