  1. Hi there! We do have a group chat. Message me and I can give you the info
  2. Hi there! We do have a discord chat. DM me your number and I can send you the link ?
  3. I'm so happy to hear this! I love the nursing staff at Rio, but I have never been one of their students (besides CNA) so I don't know them like that. Hearing your perspective is so helpful and refreshing when there is so much negativity about nursing programs. Your words are so motivating and has made me that much more excited to start! Congrats on almost finishing, coming from Rio Hondo I know you are going to be a fantastic nurse ? thank you so much for the advice. I was wondering, in your opinion, do you think it's better to have the physical text books or the digital? I'm torn between which I want to get? thank you again and happy pinning!
  4. Yay! Congrats!! Usually the alternates get a spot because some people don't show up to the orientation and lose their spot. I've seen it happen the past two orientations. I'd say you have a very good chance. Go to the orientation on Monday and you will find out then ?
  5. Hi! I seen that same thread earlier this year and looked into attrition rates because of it. It does worry me that RHC's is so high but I also know it's one of the best programs in the state of California. I personally think some people drop because they didn't expect to do the things that nurses actually do. A lot of people sign up with no healthcare experience and realize it's not for them. The professors are tough, as they should be, but if you put in the work you should be fine. I work with some nurses that are from RHC and some RHC nursing students doing their clinical rotations, they said it's not as bad as some make it seem. One even said they just changed their program this past semester and supposedly it's a tad easier than semester's prior. If Rio is all around better for you, stick with it. Working in a hospital, I've heard a lot about how Rio is known for being a good school and hospitals like hiring Rio nurses.
  6. Hello, there isn't really a dress code. The last 2 orientations some people just showed up in sweats haha. I'm just gonna wear yoga leggings, a shirt and sneakers. You can wear whatever you like but I wouldn't go too professional as no one does.
  7. I was chosen as an alternate. My stats were: 27 points on application, 3.9 overall, 3.8 science prereqs, 78 TEAS score, & I have my CNA certification but no experience (at the time of application)
  8. Hey everyone! I was chosen as an alternate ? usually alternates get spots so that's exciting. But I was already accepted to my top choice school so I will be declining the alternate offer. Good luck to everyone and congrats to those who got accepted!
  9. I applied to Pasadena, Cypress. Santa Ana, Long Beach, Chaffey, Riverside and Rio Hondo.
  10. Right! I'm so excited. But the email came in at 3:07pm today. It said: Dear RN Applicant We regret to inform you that you were not selected for the Spring 2026 Registered Nursing Program. Unfortunately, we are limited by classroom and clinical availability, so we are unable to accept a larger cohort of students. And then it also said to complete any coursework that isn't required but recommended (I already did) & to apply again next round. I'm not sure how many points I went in with, but I have a 3.9gpa, 78 TEAS, volunteer experience, CNA experience, letters of recommendation, and the life experience points as well.
  11. Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that I got my rejection letter today. I already got accepted into my top choice CC, so I'm not bothered, but wanted to let you guys know so you can be on the look out ? good luck!
  12. Me too! Both times there were a some ADN acceptances that were no shows to orientation and their spot went to the alternates. I'm hopeful for you!
  13. In the past 2 orientations that I attended, all alternates got accepted. ?
  14. Hi!! I was the one who went to their orientation before. Once as a future CNA student (the orientation is for CNA's, LVN's & RN's) & the second time I helped set up and I spoke at it. The shoes just need to be white leather & slip resistant. Any brand is fine. Stethoscope brand doesn't matter. They also say you need a pen light & scissors. I forgot what other supplies are required. If I remember I'll come back and post it. I also have Kaiser. I made an appt for the physical with any primary physician that had the soonest availability, I think I was seen within that same week too. At the physical, he ordered all the titers lab work, which I was able to do that day, and also had the nurse perform my eye exam and give me my vaccines. So it was all done in one day. But the results for everything took a few days to show up on the app. And I didn't get the physical form back until my TB test was completed (which he also had to order) a couple weeks later. The TB tests take about 1-2 weeks to complete so if you haven't done it, I would recommend you try to make an appointment with the first available physician and get everything taken care of now. For the fire card, I went to LA Fire Card's website and made an appointment for an online class within 2 days. They texted me a picture of my fire card when I was done less than an hour later. My friend went in person but it took a week longer for there to be an opening. The online is $30 more, but worth it to get it done faster
  15. Hey my fellow cohort ? just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I've been to Rio Hondo's nursing orientation before. Be prepared to buy the books that day. They highly recommend you do and they are expensive. I wanna say around $1200 for the entire bundle that you will need. They are also HUGE. So bring a backpack or something to carry them. You will also be ordering your scrubs that day, I'd say we need one set for each day we have school. So prepare for around $200+ for that. also, be there early. DO NOT BE LATE! They will call you up & one year they made whoever was late stand for the entire 3-4 hours. If you do not show up to the orientation, you will be dropped from the program. No exceptions. just wanted to give you all a heads up! See you in December ?
