My husband and I are both nurses with fifteen years of experience who are looking in the same direction! we are in our forties, but we are curious about what others' experiences have been. I was even looking online at houses on Vancouver Island. I believe the NCLEX is accepted for certification there, and an English proficiency test ( if not in Quebec) is required. I don't know much more. I would love a Canadian ex-pat could join this convo!

I have been a labor and delivery/ postpartum RN for fifteen years. I am also finishing up my MSN-EDU in the next few months. That being said, my family is considering what moving abroad to Ireland entails. L&D nursing does not exist in Ireland, the UK, and Europe. Those nurses are all midwives. I am hoping someone has some experience moving from the US to the EU as a labor nurse and what extra school or certifications might be involved. I am reviewing how to register with the nursing and midwifery board they have there, but I am wondering if any US ex-pats might have advice for me. Thank you for your time and ideas!! Also, my husband is a Med Surg RN who I think may have a better time getting work there because of his experience, but he happens to have an ADN, not a BSN> Any thoughts here as well?

I have practiced in Texas and Washington. I very much recommend West Coast nursing. Working for a union hospital has made a HUGE world of difference for me, as I see safer patient ratios, fairer work practices, better, more humane providers, and better pay. I also like working for a unionized hospital because everyone knows what everyone makes. There aren't secrets. In Texas, I had to work harder in an abusive unit with bullying nurses and providers. I have thrived in WA. I cannot say that is all TX nursing, but the nurses who travel to us from there are always super happy and reflect on how well we are treated.
