  1. Sweet heart I just want to send you a big virtual hug, no young person your age should have to go through half of the things you have been through and yet you survived it all which by itself is already such a huge accomplishment that shows your strength and resilience. I am sure you will be able to recover your grades if you really set your mind to it. I would like to point out that the nursing field is a bit different than most other careers. Getting into UCLA in general might be possible but getting into their nursing program specifically will be near impossible since you are competing against UCLA students who did their first 2yrs at ucla and presumably have excellent grades. Even most ucla students will be unable to get into their nursing program and have to transfer elsewhere to pursue nursing. When it comes down to it, nursing schools do not focus on your overall GPA, but on very specific classes which are : Anatomy Physiology Microbiology Chemistry English 101 And your score on the entrance exam which is usually the TEAS Each school has their own criteria but for many programs, each repetition of these classes counts against you even if that was a W. Nursing is not as holistic as other fields and is mostly based on grades. Work experience and life hardships will get you a few extra points but not much. Most programs do not even accept letters of recommendation or personal statement. If you really want to get into a nursing program, you must really apply to every program near you to better your chances which will include many community colleges in your area. Now I understand you want your college/university experience probably at a 4yr university, but not every uni even offers a nursing BS (csun doesnt). There are SO MANY people with previous bachelors degrees in other fields who went and got a college experience and ended up realizing they have no job prospects and end up applying to CC nursing programs. I am one of those people, I went to CSUN and got a bs in communicative disorders now I I just got into LACCONAH for nursing which will be an associate degree. I think you should really do your research on the schools around you but also research other degrees or fields you are interested in that might not be nursing. Enjoy your college classes for now and see where your interests take you while getting the best grades possible. Do not put too much pressure on yourself to decide now. I am rooting for you and I really wish you the best of luck!
  2. Hi everyone I got my acceptance email yesterday and I am extremely grateful and over the moon ! Did anyone else get it? For anyone reading this thread in the future like I read so many past threads, the interview consists of three parts. The first is writing a paragraph in response to a short YouTube video, then a communication exercise with a partner where you give each other verbal instructions to complete a task, Third, you draw three random interview questions that you have to answer, everyone gets different questions. Overall I felt the process was fair and objective.
  3. Schools are mandated to offer the 30-unit option which is why you see it listed on all their website but they state it is on an "as space allows" basis which they make to mean never and they actively discourage students from this option. Any advanced placement is used to fill spots of students who drop out of the traditional program and they give priority to traditional student repeaters or lvns who want the degree option which means the 30 unit option applicants are essentially never selected. What part of california are you in? Yes programs are impacted but it is not impossible to get into a program. Also the only difference between a 30 unit RN and an lvn-RN is that the 30 unit option doesn't include the general ED classes to fulfill the associate degree requirement. Your daughter can take her gen ED's at a community college inexpensive. There is a private school in Lancaster CA career care institute that allows you to transfer all your gen ED and lvn credits after which the tuition ends up being around 30k when the original price is 80k. Most other private schools limit the number of units you can transfer. Worth looking into if you live close to that area.
  4. Not all hope is lost with CCs, my co worker applied to 7 lottery schools in Los Angeles and got accepted into 2 on her first application cycle. There are also others who do a point system based on your grades so no wait list. I think all public bsn programs are competitive to get into unfortunately. You will have to go private or get mostly A's on your prereqs or just apply to a bunch of lottery schools to have better chances. Private adn programs are also cheaper than bsn private programs. Sorry I'm no help I'm in the same boat as you applying to so many public adn schools right now hoping one accepts me.
  5. I would get an accelerated bsn then get experience in the field you ultimately like so that you know what you would like to specialize in as an NP. Start by reaseraching the prerequisites for these programs and see if you've met them. An MSN is not necessary to get into NP school. An MSN as an academic degree will help you get into management, teaching, public health etc. but is not a clinical degree it's an academic degree. Then once you become an NP you will have a clinical MSN from that NP Program. If you are ultimately more interested in being a clinician without doing bedside care look into becoming a PA. Most NPs will need atleast a few years of bedside experience in their specialty to get into a reputable NP Program. I've spent hours researching these things because I also wanted to do the same. I also have a BS in another field, I've also been an LVN for 10yrs. Ultimately I decided to go for RN-ADN first because of the price tag of these accelerated programs.
  6. Hi yes I applied and interviewed. I have been looking at their website for the past 3yrs and noticed there was a change that made it mandatory to get full credit on the interview in order to be considered, essentially making the interview pass/no pass as opposed to being able to get partial points (or possibly no points? ) and still be able to be considered based on the rest of your points. I did not get the second exercise where you give instructions 100% correct so I am assuming I probably did not get full points right there and maybe I am out. Did any of you have the same situation and did not pass that portion? I have 89 pts
