RN License Endorsement to California – Pediatric/Psychiatric Clinicals via Simulation During COVID
Hi everyone, I'm an internationally-educated nurse from South Korea, currently working as a registered nurse in a tertiary hospital (4 years of clinical experience). I passed the NCLEX and hold a valid New York RN license. I'm now going through the endorsement process to transfer my license to California. However, the California BRN has flagged my pediatric and psychiatric nursing clinical hours as insufficient because part of the coursework was completed online during the COVID-19 pandemic. While we did complete simulation-based learning modules (e.g., vSim scenarios, guided clinical decision-making), the BRN is requesting that I retake these courses at a California-approved nursing program. To support my application, I've translated and submitted detailed syllabi, and I'm collecting recommendation lettersfrom my professors who supervised those courses, emphasizing the structure and depth of our clinical simulations. Has anyone else gone through a similar situation? Were you able to get BRN approval without retaking courses in California? Do you think including professor letters, syllabi, and my unique clinical experiences will help? Any advice or similar stories would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

South Korea's New Nursing Act: A Victory for Nurses or an Ongoing Battle?
Hello fellow nurses, As a nurse from South Korea, I wanted to share some major news regarding the passage of the Nursing Act, a law that has been debated for decades. For years, South Korean nurses have been advocating for an independent Nursing Act, similar to those in many other countries. Despite strong opposition from certain medical groups, the law was finally passed and will take effect in June 2025. ? Why is this important? South Korea was one of the few developed countries without a dedicated Nursing Act. The new law aims to clarify nursing roles, improve working conditions, and expand community healthcare services. However, some physician groups have strongly opposed the law, arguing that it may disrupt the current healthcare system. ? How does this compare to other countries? In the United States, each state has its own Nurse Practice Act that defines the scope of nursing. In Canada, Australia, and the UK, nursing regulations are well-established and allow for greater autonomy in advanced practice. South Korea is now trying to align itself with these global standards, but the transition is challenging. ? What do you think? Should more countries establish independent Nursing Acts to better define and protect the role of nurses? I would love to hear the perspectives of nurses from different healthcare systems! ?
