Menstrual Cramps
For cases like this I will usually tell them that they are okay to return to class for the time being while I call home as they are not critically ill and do not need to be missing extra class time. I tell them that I will call them down if parents want to retrieve them or bring medication. This allows me to speak to the parents on my own and let them know that in my professional opinion, I did not see any signs of extreme pain or discomfort, that the student was smiling and appeared to be in good spirits, then let it be up to them at that point. If they are missing a lot of school/class you can feel good about advocating to keep them in school and know that you did all that you could.

Private Duty Home Health Nurse Question .
I make sure to keep up with any therapies needed for my patients as this is the best way to ensure that they are actually making progress. Doing physical therapy once per week would just be a waste of time for everybody. Every time I get a plan of care, therapy goals are included and the HH nurse is expected to implement what we can into our daily care. If you don't feel safe doing the therapies correctly, I'd speak with the agency about it.

Too Many Visits - advice for teachers?
A lot of these are not health concerns and should NOT be what the nurse is utilized for. This is incredibly dangerous. What if there is a medical emergency? Are you supposed to leave 15 children waiting while you try to get your bearings and get to another part of the school? This is an administration problem! They need to handle their teachers because these numbers coming to the clinic keep real medical issues hidden behind broken zipper visits. This is at the very least a liability and at most a situation that is racing towards someone getting very hurt or not taken care of in time during an emergency.

Nurses Pass Ideas?
I looked up several different passes/templates online and made my own based on the specific frequent needs of our students. For example, we often get hungry children sent to the clinic who are just complaining of a stomachache to their teacher. So now there is a section on the new passes that asks if the student has eaten if 'stomachache' is selected. I would look at some different examples and take from them what you need, (if you are not finding an already perfect pass for your specific student population online or here to use)

School Nurse Pay
What area are you in? I'm making $30/hr in Tampa area but working through a staffing agency, and would love to re-join an actual school district.
