  1. A day in the life of an inpatient new grad nurse is not all what it seems. You are promised rainbows and sunshine but that isn't what you see. You love what you do but it gets harder everyday. Maybe we need to find a new way... Dear Future New Nurse, It is hard to be a new nurse especially in the inpatient setting. So many people have negative connotations of new grad nurses but don't let that phase you. You made it and earned your position just like the other nurses did. Don't be surprised if your patients get mean, this world isn't friendly anymore. You are there for a patient's worst day so don't expect rainbows and sunshine when they are just upset. The first time you make a mistake it will feel awful, and you will likely feel incompetent. I still do every time. Being a nurse is hard. Being a new nurse is even harder. Then there are the unit bullies.. They make you feel miserable, but you will persevere. One day you will find your love for nursing again, until then just smile and push through.
