So I graduated from COM this December. I'm coming back to comment and leave some of the information that I was looking for when I got my acceptance letter from College of the Mainland LVN program. School was 3 days a week first class usually started by 8:30am and we got about an hour break in between the classes. There were three to four classes per semester. Clinicals were one day per week 6am to 6pm one semester clinicals were either Monday or Thursday and another semester it was on Tuesday or Thursday. We did get to pick but if too many people select the same day they will adjust it accordingly so its fair for all. Class was usually over by 4pm so I was able to work a full time job and go to school which was something I was concerned about but it was possible as several of my classmates as well as myself worked and went to school. The school work is doable and the instructors really want you to succeed which makes this program stand out above a lot of other programs. The instructors are really kind and welcoming and they make themselves available to you via email, after class as well as office hours. They do not talk down to you or condescend, if you do not know something they will work with you until you do and the school also offers free tutoring help with writing papers etc. You can do this program, this college provides every tool you can think of to be successful. I passed my NCLEX on the first try so have the classmates that have taken it so far. The exams they provide really do prepare you for the types of questions you'll see on NCLEX. You will have to purchase scrub pants, two COM shirts as well as three patches with the COM logo on it. All of that was about 100.00 at the book store but I was able to cut the cost by buying the scrub pants online. As long as the color matches they're fine with that. Tuition, books and stuff all told was about 8,700.00 for the entire program which was AMAZING for the quality of schooling provided and the care the faculty provides. We also had 1 sim lab day which was 8 hours about 4 times per semester. If you end up seeing Henderson or Gundermann on your schedule prepare to pass. They will work with you and help you in any way they can so that you're comfortable with the material. A lot of other programs you are teaching yourself but at COM they really want to see you pass and do well and I've never encountered an instructor that didn't go the extra mile to help a student. If you got an acceptance letter from COM congratulations you've made it into a school that cares and if you're just at the point where you're considering COM I would definitely say do it College of the Mainland LVN program is worth it in many ways!
