I did a project in school on regards to gender issues in nursing and I read that a stereotype within nursing is that men are lazy... I do not believe this to be true at all I'm not even practicing yet I'm still in school and I see the way the guys in my class work and the amount of effort they put into their assignment and projects just to prove "they are worthy" and if men in the nursing profession even put half the effort in their job as the guys in my class do I would not even remotely consider or think they were lazy

In my class of 70 students there is 11 men, I was really suprised when I saw this becasue I figured coming into the program that there would only be 1 maybe 2 men. They are awsome guys though and I love them all

In my class my prof went over some charting blooper some where: "both patients breast were equally and symetrically reactive to light and accomodation" instead of "...eyes were equally..." another was "the patient was raped in the usual fashion" instead of reading "...patient was draped...". I thought that was kinda funny (aswell as the rest of my class)

What is a Direct Entry Program?

I have the same fear... I am petrified of getting a shot... I'm only in my first year of nursing school but everyone I've talked to says you quickly get over the fear... I had my first experience with blood on my first nurses work experience when I visited the obstetrics ward and the 2 patients I was dealing with had just had c-sections with complications, there was alot of blood and I thought that I wouldn't be able to handle it but I was fine, I think it was because it wasn't my blood or even my pain it was someone elses (it's kinda mean to think that way, but it's the only way I think I got through it)

I know the feeling.... I'm still in school, but on my first clinical experience I felt so dumb because I had such a hard time inderstanding the language I was so overwhelmed as I made the whole experience to be such a big deal in my head that I ended up passing out cold right in front of the nurse that I was shadowing, I was so embarressed and felt so dumb. :imbar

Hi there I'm in my first year nursing school in BC Canada, I was just wondering if this workload ever gets easier or if it doesn't necessarily get easier in the amount of work does the organization get easier and eventually become second nature?

In class today we watched a movie in regards to a patient being treated with a new and invasive chemotherapy treatment for advanced ovarian cancer... she ended up dying solely because of the treatment... however I couldn't help but to ball my eyes out in class while watching this movie... I was just wondering if its ok to cry if a patient dies or is it frowned upon in the hosptial setting?
