  1. Hi David! I do NOT know how did all those wild shifts and especially the 22 hours with only 9 hours off to recharge!! I would be a zombie and a very dangerous nurse not to mention at the age of 60!! Wow! My hat is off to you!! I would have literally and accidentally hurt/killed someone's loved one. I believe my health issues are a lot to blame for my lack of energy these days. I have really bad iron deficiency anemia, low vitamin D level along with all my female hormones being low, in particular a super low testosterone level. I will say that I'm currently seeing my NP for most of these issues and soon will see my OB doctor and I'm hoping soon to resolve all which is zapping my energy levels. Once all that's fixed, then I plant to get my tired self back to exercising too. Hopefully then I will feel like these 12 hour shifts won't wipe me completely out like they do now. I definitely posted my previous posting after working two busy 12 hour shifts and I was definitely tired. I only have 1 day off, today, then back for 4 in a row. I picked up a little overtime and I'm already regretting it!! LOL
  2. I am 45 year old (almost 46) and I have worked most of my career in MICU. I work a 3/2 split shift that are 12 hour shifts. My longest stretch is 3 days in a row in which I am getting to the point that I feel I don't know how much longer I can keep doing it. Especially after a couple of busy busy days in a row. I will say for now that I prefer 12 hour shifts as I like having some week days off. I'm just hoping I can hold out another 3 years before I can retire. I know once I retire, I will have to keep working cause my kids are still fairly young. (I had them both in my 30s.) I have no clue what a swing shift is and honestly it doesn't sound like something I could do if it requires working on nights or beyond 12 hours!! If I were in my early 30s, maybe. ?
