  1. Homehealth LVN shift care- can we check GT mickey stomach residuals even without doctor's order?

    Hello awesome nurses, I am new grad LVN starting in homehealth and I have question regarding mickey G-tube. Can we check stomach residuals even without doctor's order? To be honest, I thought we should because that's what I remember back in nursing school, however, upon meeting my patient, they don't have those 60ml or 100mL syringes. And I am pretty sure the doctor knows about the patient and her vomiting tendencies because she's been the doctor for years. If I do need to check residual, do I just tell the mom to purchase a 60mL syringe or call the doctor? what's the process? do I check or not?
