  1. Hi Kathryn,I have been an LPN in Memphis for 16 years.I fully agree with you.Could you please send me info on the NFlpn I would be glad to help. Thanks Shannon
  2. Congrats.....:balloons:
  3. Hi Vicki, Dont worry about your age.I have worked with nurses that are older that you.You are still young.Im sure you will be a fantastic nurse, dont get cold feet before you get started. You will get the hang of it,jus rely on your training and your good nursing judgement.Remember no one will get mad if you ask a question, all nurses as new grads have been in your shoes. In Tn and Ms LPNs and MAs in Dr office do basically the same.I have worked with some of the best MAs,but dont sell your self short you are an LPN...Good luck hun
  4. I agree with llg,I have been an LPN 16 yrs.I was burnt out, tired of ,well not really pt contact, but the stress of everyday nursing.I had already spoke with my husband and was preparing to quit nursing all together.i the took the position of a MA instructor.Well what can I say "I love it" This ia a wonderful and very rewarding job.Keep lookin the right job for you is out there.
  5. I am currently an LPN that is an MA instructor,MA are needed in Tn but mainly in Drs offices.Correctional Medical Services hires MAs to work in their clinic.Hang in there......Good luck
  6. I am an LPN in Tn and was trained very well in pediatric phone triage,It was difficult at first, the office had 6 peds drs, but there was another nurse an LPN there with me while I trained. Our office had a peds triage book that the phone nurse always has access too,and the phone nurse is never alone if we needed a dr they were always there as were the nurse manager.I feel I am a wonderful triage nurse because of the correct training I received.
  7. I recently quit working for CMS in Memphis tn.I was still in orientation, going on my 3 rd week. I worked days and had been there at 9 hrs, when the DON informed me at 3:00 I had to stay for the 3-11 shift mandatory OT.I have ben a nurse 16 years and CMS was by far the worst place I have ever worked.:angryfire
  8. I fully agree with you I could probably make more as a bartender. But I became a nurse 16 yrs ago when the starting pay way was around $7.oo hr.I did not expect to get rich in nursing, but I did expect to make a difference in someons life, and I feel in all those years I have. You wont get rich as an LPN but you will get the satisfaction each day you leave your job,That YOU DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO SOMEONE.....:) .And always remember that the bartenders lend us a hand in giving us jobs.:chuckle Always rememer you as an LPN are a very special person, and years down the line or when you are out in public one day, someone will walk up to you and say,"I remember you,you saved my life I have always wanted to Thank You".That is what nursing is all about,if you went to school to gain your LPN license to make more money, your in the wrong line of work.
  9. As an LPN I have worked in ED,L&D,LTC,Med surg,Cardiac,Peds,Hun the possibilities are limitless.I have paid my dues and now I teach in college as an CMA instructor
  10. I have been an LPN for 16 years, upon working in peds I have found that keeping a few stickers or disney bandaids, brightly covered bandaids in my pocket and let them know I have it.After the successful BP let them choose one. Also instead of telling them you are checking their BP,tell them you are checking to see how big their muscles are, also you can ask them if they like getting hugs from mom and dad, when they say yes, tell them that you are going to give their arm a hug.....
