No it's every week for 12 weeks with both classroom and either 1, 2 or 3 precepted 12 hour shifts each week, depending on how how much classroom / healthstream / Ecco's are due that week. edit: sorry I misread your comment, I am not sure about the weekend requirement. I assume some of the precepted shifts will be weekends.

More or less you want to stay on a 7p-7a schedule on your days off too. Maybe move it by a couple hours but I wouldn't deviate too much on your days off. What works for some doesn't work for others and vice versa. Google will give you a lot of insight on transitioning and working night shift as well. Flip flopping is hard - Mission Viejo starts new grads at $45

It's crazy competitive to get into the hospital as a new grad in California. I had to start on nights 8 years ago and this was in Florida after months of not getting in. Nights are what you make it, yes it can be rough but it's a better time to learn if you're new. Also you can't flip flop between days and nights if you're nighshift. How many shifts did you do that it affected your mental health? Wow. Good luck

Oh yeah San Diego is insanely low. Lower than LA. I could have stayed here on tele pcu floors and made $100 an hour but I absolutely despise pcu ms tele and need off the floor asap. Also rent is about $4,000 for a 1 bedroom in the city. SoCal is notoriously low pay. $49-50 sounds about right for new grads in SoCal. New grad in NorCal make $75-85 off the bat... but again rent here is absolutely insane

Should I stop travel nursing on the floor to specialize?
Yeah I wish I could get that kind of position that was enough to pay my bills. I never hear back from those positions

For what it's worth, I'm an experienced nurse who got an official offer today for a SICU fellowship in Mission Viejo starting Feb 26th. I was told I would be with new grads so I assume this means the residency. I interviewed last Wednesday. It must be a different process for every hospital or maybe fellowship vs residency but thought I'd share, anyone going to be at MV in ICU?

Should I stop travel nursing on the floor to specialize?
I have done pcu, ms, tele for 6 years and I hate it. It's so chaotic I can't even provide good patient care and am so exhausted on my days off from running around like an insane person that I don't have much of a life outside work. I 100% know that ICU is stressful but I'm thinking of trying it... My biggest regret after nursing was not specializing right away. I was offered a staff position in Southern California and thinking of stopping travel nursing in the SF Bay Area, taking a (large) pay cut, to try a SICU position at a level 2 (350 bed hospital). Am I making a mistake doing this? What are the main differences in exhaustion levels between chaotic floor nursing and ICU? Is there another specialty you would recommend that I can try to do a fellowship in? I'm finding it hard to get into a specialty and this is the only one I've heard back from and offered a fellowship in. Thanks for any info or advice, truly appreciate any kind words of wisdom!
