Hi, you are certianly not too old. As long as you are strong willed to do it, nursing is for all. What I can tell you is that if I have a BA, I won't even try to go thru the ADN route. I'll try accelerated programs. This would depend on you largely. It is hectic but doable. I have a firend that has just graduated from texas tech accelerated program and she thinks it's the best thing that has ever happened to her. Here's the link. It takes days. They work really very fast these days. When we finished our hesi exit exams, they sent out our papers the same week and on checking online for mine the following week, i foumd my name listed online on the BNE website.Employers can also verify you online with that. Hope this helps.

I don't think you are a loser Leena. Having passed through the "hard horizon" of nursing school, i bet you can also scale thru that hesi. Don't call yourself a loser. We were all scared by this hesi but i tell you, a lot of people couldn't pass hesi because they have so much glorified hesi and become so afraid of it that they get to the exam hall and go blank. My advise to you would be to be calm. Be very very calm during the exam. Don't get nervous when you see people leaving the hall before you. I used saunders to study for hesi. I had to put aside their book and CD becasue that CD was somewhat depressing to me. I don't think i made more than 78% in all the programs i took on that CD. I used saunders book and CD and then went thru hesi hints afterwards. So, if you can, use saunders(concentrating on your weakest areas and walking up that way to your best areas.) I also found saunders Q & A book very helpful. A lot of the saunders questions were very similar to hesi.Just be sure to read the questions and go thru the rationales too. Read the questions, think about it and go straight to the answer and be sure to read all the rationales. I figured having to answer about a 100 questions and grading it later was a waste of my time. So, i basically read and check the answer. The only thing i did to work on my endurance was to sit down and finish about 150-200 questions at a time on the saunders CD. You know the hesi itself is like 160 questions. More importantly, pray that God will help you succeed. Think winning this hesi instead of losing. Be calm.You'll make it! Hesi was a lot easier than we had thought. I ended up making over a 1000. . Read carefully, always narrow it to 2 and select your best.Know your math conversions so you get all the maths because they carry more points.Be sure to look at the answer very well before clicking next. Type correctly for "fill-in-the blanks". If they type only the answer , do just that, don't inlude any other thing. You can do this thing. I wish you ALL the BEST. GOODLUCK!!!

I wouldn't ask for a new preceptor at this time.JMHO. Since you have only two weeks left. Request that you actually take the full load of patients or atleast ask for 4 of her patients (if she has 5) or 3 if she has 4 patients. And talk to her about actually doing the work( i mean the entire Pt. care)while she follows you around and assists as appropriate. My last 3 weeks, I was taking all my preceptor's Patients and only asked questions when necessary. She was even glad because that was a big relief for her. So, I would suggest you talk to her first. I have an LVN like that in my place of work. They are 4 of them and the other three are "good" so to say, but there is just this lady that is so very jealous. In fact she asked me to take her discharged patient down to the car park and I looked at her and said I didn't think i could do that and she left surprised that i could refuse. I don't know how i could leave my patients and take someone else's patient downstairs. She's not even the type that cares about what happens to your patient while you are helping her, so why would i take the risk. Next day she started behaving so hostile. I asked my then preceptor and she said that that LVN is so rude and that she intimidates new RNs on the unit like that. Well, I refused to let her intimidate me and since that day, she avoids me. I just greet her and continue with my job. Bottom line, be aware that you can't please everybody. Just do what you know to be right and hang in there. After your orientation is over, I believe there would be a change. BUT DO NOT LET HER INTIMIDATE YOU IN ANY WAY. Just don't take her remarks to heart and don't pay any attention to those remarks. I usually "tune off" when i hear those kind of remarks and give a smile as i'm walking away. Some of them wonder "what the hell is wrong with her" But it worked for me, they end up being my friend or they just get tired and stop because I don't seem to look offended by it.I remember when i newly came, I just noticed that she always hides her name badge, hmmm, I later realized that she didn't want me to know she is an LVN so she has time to toss me around like a coin!('cos we wear same uniform -RN and LVN). Kaplan is entirely different from Hesi in terms of how the questions are worded and also the format. Kaplan prepares you for Nclex and is designed for those who have completed the nursing program. Except you study ahead, there are quite a few topics which you may feel so lost simply because you are yet to do that in your school. However, i can say that it would eventually pay off if you do it like a month to the end of your final semester in school. I did Kaplan like in April, graduated in May and did my Nclex first week in June. I still had access to Kaplan course materials until i did my nclex. I didn't tell a lot of people because even the ones i told was like, this is crazy, can't you even wait, it's a waste of money bla bla bla... Anyhow, I was on top in my class for Hesi and passed nclex with ease... I'm quite sure kaplan was very helpful for me in narrowing those weired hesi questions down. Anyways, i wish you and all the hesi takers good luck!! YOU CAN DO IT! Tell yourself that every single day...

...I had a similar experience, but it was from an LVN. She asked me to take her patient down to the car park(on wheel chair), 'cause the other "tech's were busy." They want to intimidate you by all means.... Even though I'm new, (just about two and half months), I'm not taking that ****. I simply told her I didn't think I could do that. I mean, how can I leave my patients and take your patient downstairs?? i felt slighted but it's one of those things you have to deal with especially when you are just new.She sees me and frowns...lol.. but who cares? I just greets her with a smile and say how are you doing today and move on..I refused to put my mind to that matter anymore... I help some of the tech do stuff for my patient especially when i see that it may take a little longer for them to come in and do that task but not to the point of being intimidated...

Hi, sorry for all these things going on....I would try and find out from the manager/preceptor (whoever you feel more comfortable with) about what they think you should do. You are actually asking for the outcome of the meeting but in a different way. Based on what they say, you can then see if you have to look for another place because it may not not be very good (record wise) for them to terminate you. If they say they are giving you more time, then hang in there and do your best. If the news you get sounds like they already made up their mind about letting you go, then look for another place ASAP and move on before they let you go. I'm also in med-surg and this is my 5th week but still attached to a preceptor. I take like 3 of her patients and take an extra admission patient later on in the day.I do understand what you are going thru. It's just unfortunate that some nurses/Mgrs. forget that they had gone thru the same thing. I feel so good and more relaxed when my director tells me how it took him about a year to actually get to know all the things necessary for him to function better. Anyhow, I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do..((((hugs))))

Glad to hear that! Even as you are charting the charge nurse or the supervisor is hovering around! It makes me very uncomfortable that I sometimes drop something accidentally...LOL...Woo! I have a very good preceptor. After the first 2 weeks, he just let me do my things most of the time and doesn't even watch my "every" movt. like the charge nurse does. They don't come inside the pt's room with me (except my preceptor, sometimes) BUT once I'm outside talking to the doctor, charting, literally anything, they are watching! ..LOL...I'll get over it! I think they are trying to do their job...

Woo! how the secretary and the charge nurse just watch my every move?? Do you all notice that in your various new jobs? Even my preceptor doesn't watch me that way! He has evaluated me so well during the past few weeks. Once i come out from the pt room to the nursing station to look at the chart or do something, i almost always "catch" someone's eyes, who has been looking at me!! And they immediately remove their eyes and start cratching their hair with head down when i look up or about to leave the nurses' station!..LOL..Is that how new grads are being watched or what??? Urg! LOL...somebody pls share your thought!

Just chin up and stay there while actively working towards another one that you would love. Take your time and really look close before you leap. Put in every effort you got in this one and learn as much skills as you can. Al the best!

Don't worry yourself about "select all tha applies" I had 75 questions and didn't get any of those. I had lots of priority,though. Even if you get them, think thru them the way you would normally eliminate and choose the best answer if given only 4 options.Bottom line is, understand your stuff and know your lab values, you'll be able to narrow most of them down to 2 and select your best choice. As far as OB, it's still about knowing the basic ABCs and your lab values. i didn't get any particular questions on OB but they were mixed with med-surg. So, if you know your ABCs, you'll be able to figure out which one to care for first and all that. Be calm and you'll do just fine. Goodluck!

Don't get me wrong, I don't go there either. I was just answering your question why you weren't sure how such a software would be free. I don't care whether it's free or not afterall i passed my nclex already.

I had an option of 7a-7p versus night or weekend only and i chose 7a-7p. I'm glad i did because I'm enjoying it! I'm not a night person. I like my sleep! Hats off to those who do it! some are just so used to it. You have to really like it to be able to cope. And like you, I have plans for further studies next year. Enjoy your new job!

It's not free...if you go to lww.com you have to pay...Well, it's free to students in that school. Schools can buy it for their students and i strongly believe the school bought it for their students. Usually they install it in the computer lab for everyone to use. You can look closely and see the name of the school right there ....edu. It's also available for students to buy on CDs.
