  1. Hi everyone, I'm about a month into my new night shift position as a Bed Controller/Transfer Center Rep, and while I know this is just a temporary spot for me while I finish up nursing school, I've been looking at it as a great chance to learn and connect with charge nurses and supervisors across the hospital. The problem is... I can feel a lot of the charge nurses are kind of testing me or pushing their limits with me since I'm new. After the beginning-of-shift huddle with all the charge nurses, the nursing sup sends me a private message to start bedding some patients and I start calling the units one by one like I'm supposed to. But almost every charge nurse tells me they need to review the patient and will "call me back.” Most of the time, they don't. If I'm lucky, one will assign a bed for maybe one of the three patients I need to place. I'll even call back about 45 minutes to an hour later, only to be laughed at and told the same thing. I totally get they're busy and want to make sure the patient is appropriate for their floor but this back and forth makes my job harder and is making me look bad to the nursing sup who sees the job getting done by my colleagues during the other shifts because they're more blunt and firm and I don't want to come across as rude since I'm trying to establish rapport with everyone. I'm trying to figure out how to build trust with them while still getting the job done. Has anyone else gone through something like this? What can I say or do to make things run more smoothly without stepping on toes? I'd love to hear what's worked for others. And on another note, this will be my first time working a full time night shift, including alternate weekends. So any tips and suggestions on how to make this easier because while my mind feels awake, my body just wants to crash right about now. Thanks in advance! I really appreciate any advice!
  2. I'm wondering if anyone can give insight on what the classwork/ homework load is like and what the requirements are for graduating at this school? I'm looking at another accelerated online program in FL and reading horror stories about people not passing and how mean the instructors are.
  3. @Gordon Johnson How long ago did you attend this school? Did you end up transferring or did you complete the program?
  4. What's your email? I can send you a message. I'm currently attending this school as well.
  5. You're welcome! ICHS is also $9k more than PIC. If you qualify for Pell grants, you may have a chance of getting your tuition covered, or at least some. Just something to think about!
  6. I just started with PIC this week and I think in terms of how difficult the classes are will be the same for both PIC and ICHS. I looked into both schools, and while it was a tough choice, (I really wanted to choose ICHS because of their online flexibility, the school was under investigation at the time so I didn't want to risk it, and they don't accept federal student loans), I ultimately chose PIC because they are accredited. From what I was told, there is help when you're not passing a class. They want their students to pass, it's how they stay accredited. Because both schools are hybrid programs be prepared for the communication to be very lacking, it seems that they are both highly disorganized. Mentally prepare yourself for a lot of frustration, and a lot of study time. Goodluck!
  7. @Lavender Love Do you happen to know what would happen if someone doesn't pass a class? Would they have to repeat it or is there another opportunity to retest for the credit? I tried to email them today because I forgot to ask it during my one on one interview, but they wouldn't answer my question.
  8. @lvnash I don't think they're trying to hide that you may need additional classes, PIC just might not be aware of every single state's requirements. It sounds like you may be referring to the general requirements to obtain an associates degree? I know of plenty of people that have successfully endorsed their Florida RN license to California. They also provided me with the application and instructions to fill it out before I even applied to the program.
  9. Thanks so much! I'll be in my work clothes so no pj's for me LOL! I did my esthetician classes online during the pandemic and we had to be in our scrubs and lab coat the entire time. I'm from California, you?
  10. For those currently attending PIC, could you describe the typical daily schedule? I am planning on attending in October and I work full time and have 2 kids that I need to make arrangements for drop offs and pickups so I can make it in front of the computer in time for class. I read the classes are 4 days a week, but I also saw Monday to Friday, so I'm confused? Is there a break time? How long is the break? Is there any dress code during class time? Do we need to have our mics on too? Any info will be helpful, thank you!
  11. Hi! Did you end up choosing this school or did you find another school to attend?
