  1. Most of my nursing career has been working Mon-Fri 8-430. My part time jobs did involve working weekends and holidays. I did this to have a somewhat more normal life while my kids were at home. I am now 4-5 years from retirement and still working Mon-Fri 730-400p. My previous position was 7a-7p but I felt I had less quality me time. I am a certified case manager and always had lots of jobs available to me. Good luck!
  2. And now they have done away with the "board review" and now HR will review??? A non nurse reviewing a nurse's accomplishments. YIKES!
  3. Hi. 28 years of nursing experience in Med/Surg, home care, case management, quality and patient safety etc. I was offered a teaching position because of my broad spectrum of nursing experience!! I have a BSN, Certification in Case Management and a Master's in Strategic Management. With your MSN you will be able to teach LPN and some BSN classes. I know at my alma mater you needed a PhD to teach at their BSN nursing program as a professor. You could teach clinical most likely.
  4. Hired 12/2022 as a Grade 2 Step 12 w/BSN and non-nursing MS In strategic leadership. I have 28 years nursing experience, 43 years total in healthcare and am a Certified Case Manager. They take EVERYTHING you have done as a nurse in consideration at the nursing board review prior to their salary offer. Please have a VA nurse assist you through this process!! It is in YOUR best interest so you get the most money! I had a colleague who told me "write EVERYTHING you have ever done as a nurse. This includes precepting, mentoring, education (nurse and patients), committees, projects, awards, certifications, training, specialties, lean belt training, manager/leadership responsibilities, etc. Again EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER DONE AS A NURSE!! This is NOT your resume, this is an additional statement you write out to cover "what's NOT included on your resume". The VA offers great pay and benefits as a nurse. A colleague from my previous job did NOT do this additional information sheets and it cost her $1000s in her salary. Before submitting this additional information along with all of your college transcripts, licenses and certifications, please ask to speak to the nursing recruiter if you are unsure or want to clarify something before your submission. Good luck!!
