1. What are some things you do to give yourself time to think and breathe?
I make sure to leave work at work. I make sure to schedule some PTO at least once a month for some self care and prevent burn out. I also use my weekends to enjoy my family, do hobbies, and rest.
2. What do you think is the most important attribute of today's professional case manager?
I believe collaboration is key, with the patient being the most important part of the team. There are so many moving parts managing a patients/members case, we must work together as providers/advocates/case managers to assist the patient to receive the best possible care. We as case managers are usually the ones who gather the information and connect patients to the appropriate resources. We as case managers are usually in a members life during a difficult time. Whether it is deteriorating health, work injury, homelessness, inability to care for self, ect. Case managers are the ones that connects Resources to the best of their abilities. In order to provide the best of care, a strong collaboration between all members working on the case is key to successfully assisting our patients and helping them continue to improve/maintain their health and dignity.
