Well I'm very interested on it. I have numerous book on the subject and was part of a mom-to-mom breastfeeding support group. My twins were born at 33 weeks and I breastfed them for 6 months. So I was helping mums of preemies and twins/triplets. I was just wondering how could I make my experience valuable, with a certificate or something. But they are so expensive... I'm graduating in a year, I'm wondering if I should wait to be a RN or start it now. I'm currently doing my bachelor's thesis (on the role of the nurse in facilitating fathers' attachment to their preterm baby in NICU settings) and I guess it's going to take some time. But I just love neonatal nursing so much! I'm so glad I've found this fascinating area of our profession. :)

Hi, I'm a third year nursing student and I would like to specialise as a NICU nurse after graduation. I have done 5 weeks practice in France and will have a further 12 weeks this summer. (can't wait!) I was wondering if you think that breastfeeding councelling courses or study units from let's say La Leche League are valuable for when you try to get your first job in a NICU. What do you reckon? Worth it or a waste of time/money?

Yes language skills will be essentials. You won't get work without. Your licence should be European nowadays so that is not really a prblem. I find nurses in France quite skilled in technical procedures. For example here in Finland you cannot take blod samples or insert an IV catheter on a child where nurses do in France.

My question is what is the purpose of peer evaluation in nurses' professional development. So far I came with this (which I'm not really happy about:() The purpose of peer evaluation is to give and receive criticism (negative as well as positive) so that the nurse being evaluated can adjust/change her practice. It is also a method of quality assurance for staff development. The last bit about quality assurance for staff development I have been told during lessons but it is very unclear to me. I also have to write the different ways to give peer support. Thanks for your help!

Hi everybody, As part of my pediatric assignement I have to write something about febrile seizures. the case I am given is the one of a 5 year-old child who is admitted to the hospital because of febrile seizure. This is the first time he is affected. I am asked to plan Education (guidelines/instructions for the home) for the parents and how am I going to implement education. So far I am planning on divising my answer into several parts being: - what is a febrile seizure? (definition, signs and symptoms, what happens when convulsing, etc) - What can parents do - How to reassure the parents - How am I going to implement education Pretty dull I know but these are the parts the teacher told us to write about. Now what would you put in your education plan? how would you implement it? I was thinking of doing some kind of guideline form for parents to give as a handout for the implementation, what do you reckon?

Hi, I have an exam in pediatric dosage calculation on Thursday. I've done all the exercices I could find but I feel that the more I practice the more I get confident I can pass Is there any good websites out there? Thanks Amandine

Aw thank you all! It was really bothering me as I'm usually good in calculations but he somehow thought I had it too easy to be correct!

Hi, Sorry if this is not the right section to post in but I have just joined :) Anyway I need help with a calculation exercice I have been given. Here it is: Potassium Chloride 30mEq added to 1000 ml of 5% dextrose. Supply: 30 ml vial of Potassium Chloride 2mEq / ml. How many ml of potassium Chloride is the correct amount? My answer would be 15 ml but my husband (not at all in the health care field I want to add) tells me it's wrong and makes me doubt. Any help?
