California State University, Northridge (CSUN) ABSN - Fall 2025
The curriculum heavily focuses on nursing theory to the max. In retrospect, the program did not prepare me to how to work as a nurse. (I've never had to use nursing theory at all). That said, watch videos that show you how to do IV's, how to do wound care, hanging primary and secondary bags and setting them up in an Alaris Pump, how to use EPIC. On your own time, definitely learn about the mechanisms of action for pharmacy, and tie it to other biological processes that explain the causes and treatments of the common illnesses you'll see (ie. diabetes, pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, strokes, dementia, deep vein thrombosis, cirrhosis, and kidney failure - tie together how sodium, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and/or phosphate affect (or are affected) by those illnesses). Just remember that potassium and magnesium mostly affect heart rhythms. Those are pretty much the high yield things I've been using at work. I feel nursing school programs in general need to be reformed so that it's more in line with the medical models that are taught at pharmacy, medical, dental schools. You'll be fine!

Georgetown University and Emory University - Need advice to decide
Hi! I was admitted to Georgetown's Program for FNP, and wanted to get in touch with you because I'm feeling pretty nervous about what the part time program is like? For me, it's absolutely mandatory to work full time (in order to keep benefits), but wanted to learn about your impression of the program, and whether it's doable? I posted elsewhere, but 1) wanted to see how you handled clinicals, asynchronous and synchronous classes, exams (they're every Monday is what I learned in orientation), and 2) how have you handled flying out to on-campus clinical assessments? It'd be incredibly helpful to hear from someone who went through this program ? Thanks!

Georgetown University - FNP Online Program
Hi everyone! I've been accepted to the program, and was seeking information from those who have been through the FNP program ? Naturally, I'm feeling nervous/anxious because I am working full time (part time work isn't an option for me). For those who have graduated from Georgetown, and worked part time, how have you 1) handled clinicals, exams (which are every Monday), asynchronous and synchronous classes around 3 x 12 hour shifts or 4 x 12 hour shifts? 2) how did you build your schedule around the in-person clinical assessments at the GU campus so you could fly in from another state? (Is it only one day?) I'd appreciate any feedback as I haven't seen much about the program, and am worried about inflexibility. It would be such a huge help to hear back from someone who has been through it. XD Thanks so much!

ABSN CSU Northridge or Northeastern University?
Hi everyone! I’m new here! I’m looking to bounce ideas off to see if I can gain better clarity with regards to choosing my ABSN program! For starters, I’ve gotten into multiple ones, but am narrowing my choices to CSU Northridge in California and Northeastern University in Boston. Some things I wanted to inquire about in my consideration of selecting schools are: 1) Is it more advantageous to attend a California school, especially if I’m looking to work there for a while? Is it more challenging in terms of coming back to California for employment if I go out of state for school? 2) I’ve been trying to scour all nurses to see what others have said about both schools before settling on a decision, but haven’t seen anything. If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated ? 3) When picking a school, is it important to consider what schools consider to be passing or failing? For example, if a school says passing is a C vs passing score being a B instead. Those are my current concerns right now, but I’d be so appreciative for any insight or feedback the community might be able to provide. Thanks so much everyone!
