Hello, I am a first year nursing student doing clinicals. I followed the nurse to a room where a family member was concerned about urine being in the tubing of the drainage bag. Nurse tried to explain to the family that there will always be urine in the tubing of the drainage bag. But the family was concerned that urine will flow back into the bladder and will cause infections. Nurse tried her best to explain but family was not convinced with her answers. Family then left to see management. would you guys be able to explain it better? the urine bag was below the level of the bladder and the resident was laying in bed, so it makes sense for some urine to remain the tubing at all times. But I was concerned about myself getting into a similar situation and not being able to answer the family in a good way. can you please provide feed back or correct way to answer. Thank you ?
