  1. Rome628, if you are able to defer your start date for the program a bit so that you can find out if you got the scholarship, it would be very much worth it. Because if you do get the scholarship, not only do they pay for your schooling, you will also have a guaranteed job with the VA at the end of your program. However, if you quit the VA to go to school full time, you will then be ineligible for the scholarship, as you mentioned. It could be very financially advantageous for you to wait a little bit to see if you got the scholarship.
  2. Hi, congratulations on getting a job at the Abq VA! It is a great place to work! I did end up getting the scholarship, it was approved a few weeks ago. I start nursing school in December. The process was fairly involved, a lot of paperwork, and following up on forms to make sure that they were signed in time, etc. Completely worth all of the work though, because the scholarship is an AMAZING opportunity, you won’t find anything like it anywhere else. I wish you luck, and I hope you are able to get the scholarship when you are ready! Do you know where, specifically, you will be working? If you have very specific questions about how it works, maybe we could meet up at work, and I could show you the forms and process. It is more that what I can type up here.
  3. Hello everyone, I am a VA employee of 3.5 years at the VA medical center in Albuquerque, NM and a Navy Veteran. I am also currently an occupational therapist and am looking to make the switch into nursing (long story as to why). I have just applied to the VANEEP scholarship program for 2022, and am nervously awaiting a reply. The application period just closed on May 1st. I was just wondering if anyone else out there is also applying this year? If so, I would love to hear which VA you work at, how long you have worked for the VA, what you currently do, and when you hear back from the program!
