I know how short staffed hospitals are and how crazy it can get! Ideally, schools could admit more to meet the needs of the various professions, but they’re probably also constricted by factors out of their control - funding to have additional students, placement availability in hospitals, etc. The numbers admitted don’t match up with the need and generally, especially in nursing, you see things like wage limiting legislation, not enough funding for programs or hospitals, etc. I would guess, but can’t say for certain, that it’s probably an issue that the bureaucracy and politics have a lot to do with. Keep on trying if you’re willing and passionate! Sounds like you have good experiences to bring into nursing. Sorry that it didn’t work out for you this time round but don’t give up!

It looks like at least half of the offers have gone out already (might be more). I think the deadline to accept is tomorrow but could be confusing u of t with another school. They will send out remaining offers throughout June and most of their rejections as well.

Yeah, I got a letter. It’s one page that basically just says congrats and hope you accept (none of the offer information that is on the offer letter in your JoinID portal).

I already have one but from another program at u of t. But when I first got mine, I had to set up an appointment online with TCard services and show ID, after which they turned my JoinID into my UTORID and activated my email account. I’m sure the school will provide more info in a June email or something, hang in there!

Does anyone know if mac gives offers in order of GPA? I was in the mid 3.7 range and had a 4th quartile CASPer but haven’t gotten an offer

Log into your student/application centre, they would have provided the links in emails to you when you applied. You might get an email at some point if you get accepted as well.

What’s your CASPer quartile and last 10 credits?

Mac has a children’s hospital I’m pretty sure, so that would be a plus. Not that you wouldn’t get a paediatric placement elsewhere, just in terms of learning experiences, it might be better or more interesting (I’m sure it’s also a teaching hospital). Also mac seems to be the better program overall

I *think* it’s based off of some type of ranking that considers your GPA and supplementary application. It seems as tho those who received offers early had high GPAs but it’s probably liked that they also had strong supplementary applications too because U of T really considers that. The GPA of people accepted later might be lower on average but maybe their supp app makes up for it in their overall ranking. They send out offers in waves too so it makes sense that they would send offers to their top applicants first because they want them most and then go down the list and give offers based off of available space.

I would email because you need a grade of c- in prereqs to apply. That suggests that it is necessary for you to have gotten over a c-, even if it’s not in their conditional offer letter. And you would have to send in a final transcript - when they check and to see that you’ve completed the prereq they’ll also see the grade. It’s probably better to get on top of it now since this could be a problem for your admission. Even though you have all the other prereqs and a good overall GPA, since they stated a threshold you need to have in all your prereqs pretty explicitly, it might be an issue. Think of it this way - they probably do care that you have a certain grade in that course because they outlined what you need in it. Also, because it’s a compressed program, they need you to have a passing grade in certain prereq courses so that you can actually complete a nursing degree in two years (but passing grades for nursing or medical programs are often higher cutoffs like a c- as opposed to another programs D-). if you email, they might be able to find a way around this or set up a plan for you. Also, maybe they actually don’t care and can look past it but with it being such a competitive program, I’d imagine that’s less likely. Best to find out early either way! Goodluck!

Not sure about Queen’s but the conditional offers I’ve gotten give you a minimum grade that you need to get in prereqs and then a minimum grade overall. If you don’t meet them (e,g. C in a prereq but offer said you needed a B- or higher) that would invalidate your offer. If Queen’s doesn’t have a min. grade for prereqs and you meet the overall GPA then you’re fine

Probably not - I’m close with some people who graduate from Queen’s and work downtown Toronto. Some worked in the same type of floors as their consolidation, others didn’t ball but either worked their way to it or tried something new and liked it. Connections to nurses or hiring managers downtown does seem to help tho as I think sometimes applications ask if you know any staff working on the floor or if it was recommended by a current staff member but I don’t think this is make or break by any means. Queen’s is a good tight knit program - congrats!

I’m choosing u of t because I wouldn’t have to move! Also, the hub of hospitals here are really great - TGH, Princess Margaret, SickKids, Sunnybrook, Toronto Western, St Michael’s, Mount Sinai. You’ll probably have a higher chance of getting a placement (or multiple) in one of the big downtown hospitals than if you went elsewhere although it’s still entirely possible that you could (probably a bit more work and you might have to wait until consolidation?). Personally, this is a big factor for me as friends in nursing who graduated elsewhere but moved to Toronto for jobs said they really liked how many opportunities there are and learned a lot being in the bigger teaching hospitals. It’s also where I would want to work so it makes sense to gain exposure in these places and make connections when it comes time to hiring. I also like the research intensity of UofT. Although, none of this is make or break - you can still get great placements at most schools but if one is more aligned with your goals, you should go there.

Same except Queen’s waitlisted. I figured since they both require supplementary applications I’d have a decent chance at Queen’s too. Do you know how they calculate GPA? Might be different than U of T’s last 5 FCE

I just checked and got waitlisted. I’m planning on accepting my top choice elsewhere so not too disappointed either. They have a very small class too so it’s probably among the harder to get into!

Hi! I’m not a current student, but I’ll be attending u of t in September. I plan on continuing research - I have a research associate/coordinator role on a project I’ve been working on for a number of years. My roles have been pretty flexible and diverse and I have a really good relationship with the PI since the start of the project. It might be worth speaking with your PI to see how much flexibility you can have while you’re in nursing school? I did that with mine and she was understanding. We settled on 15 hrs per week although I can do less if I need (and typically, I do less than this anyways) so long as any major tasks gets done. Hopefully youR PI can be accommodating!

checked today and got an offer from York, it might be worth checking your portal if you're still waiting on them
