Hello! So I'm fresh out of graduating with my BSN, taking the NCLEX in 10 days - I did my senior practicum on an MIU/Nursery rotation and absolutely loved it. But, this specific unit isn't hiring new grads, right? So, I apply to the Nurse Residency Program - I'm met with an L&D interview that didn't offer me the job. I'm then asked which units I'm interested in at this specific location, to which I replied, "Oncology," because I did clinical there before and enjoyed it. I take the interview, get the job offer, and before I can move on to another interview or another opening, I have to decide whether I want to accept or decline the oncology position. I also had to make the decision within 48 hours of receiving the offer. I hated having to put all of my eggs into one basket sort of thing, but I understand it's the typical policy. With a ton of back and forth in my mind of thinking, "Well what if I pass this up," etc., I take the job offer. Here I am now, a month and a half later regretting that decision because I really wanted to start out in MIU or L&D. I literally would love to do either. I'm so stuck on whether to go and tell the oncology unit that I've changed my mind or to stay and do the residency with the oncology PCU unit. What would you do?? I feel so stuck and like I might have made the wrong decision. But at the same time, I don't want to rescind the job acceptance and potentially ruin my reputation with the company, and on top of that, not be able to find somewhere willing to hire me. All replies are welcome - thanks in advance!
