HRSA 2021-2022
I GOT MY FINALIST EMAIL TODAY GUYS! I told y'all to keep the faith. I never received a credit check. They sent me two emails back to back. I am so happy right now and sending everyone else waiting good vibes. If you submitted your app at the last minute, be patient, they'll get to you.

Agree with everything you said. This is a learning experience for me and the reason I joined this forum after doing countless research. I have also extended information I came across to people on here with zero judgement. I do have a back up plan as my school will pay my tuition starting in January, but the Nurse Corp scholarship is still one of the best options along with VA. I don't even qualify for Pell Grant. I've paid for everything out of pocket so far. I appreciate you for sharing. Kindness is an asset in this field.

The issue is not having only one game plan. The issue is that even though there may be all of these grants and scholarships available for nursing, are they openly discussed? The only reason I have the app Clubhouse is because I am a part of this nursing student group and all year they have been trying to come up with ways to pay for nursing school. They told us about Avenify, bartending, all of these different things, but no one even mentioned the Nurse Corp scholarship. I learned about it from a close friend. Also, my nursing program had someone come in to speak to us about scholarships, again not one mention of the nurse corp scholarship or VA scholarship. They only mentioned the WIOA scholarship, ACT, Pell grant, the basics that most people regardless of degree are already aware of and doesn't even compare to what Nurse Corp or VA is offering. I learned about the VA scholarship on here yesterday. This is not my first degree, but my first nursing degree. I have a lot to learn and I applaud you for having a backup plan, but due to minimal information that is put out there, some of us were really banking on the Nurse Corp. Also, feel free to list all of those scholarship options. Might help someone.

Same. I really thought I'd be the first to get it, but I have no clue how their process works. It's too secretive for me. I haven't received anything. I wish someone could confirm if they've gotten a denial letter so far. I wish I knew about the VA scholarship earlier. I like that one better. I started applying, so hopefully I get it for Spring. The VA is also a federally accredited organization. I think their scholarship would boost your resume more as far as job hunting after grad. Still hoping for a miracle with Nurse Corp.

I still haven't heard from them/ haven't had my credit checked and I could've sworn my app would've been prioritized because my program is super cheap with an efc of 0 because I haven't had a stable job since covid, but thankfully have been able to afford to live on savings. I can't continue to keep paying for school out of pocket any longer though. I do not qualify for any more financial aid, lots of state grants, etc. because this is my second degree.

OK I have new news. Spoke to an HRSA agent again and she said literally the only thing that will disqualify someone from receiving the scholarship is federal debt, criminal history and a non nursing program. Do any of y'all actually know anyone who got a denial letter for this scholarship past or currently? She said that's rare and I'm praying she's not pulling my leg. She said the reason some of us haven't heard back yet is because they award based on priority which has nothing to do with Tiers. That's strange since they made us believe that in the packet. They award based on troubled background, low income, and score in your area based on need for your specialty. That explains why there is no recipient order based on degree type. I asked her how would they know someone had a troubled background and if it was based on the essays. She said no; there is a form you can download off the site and have your school's financial aid office fill out confirming stuff like you're a minority, have obstacles holding you back from attaining your degree, etc. I've never heard of that form, but she said it's there and we had the option to add it to our app under additional documents. Smh. So the people getting awarded first probably included additional documents to prove extenuating circumstances, and/or the area they live in is in desperate need of their specialty. If you are in Tier 1 and meet the EFC, you have nothing to worry about. They just fund people who checked off what I've explained above first. Then it sounds like after you receive the finalist email, there's an additional process before the funds are distributed. Make sure you have a way to cover yourself financially at least till the end of October. An alternative option: Every state has a WIOA program that grants money to all adults in a technical program. Nursing qualifies. They came to our school practically begging ppl to apply. Just submit your initial nursing school acceptance letter at your local WIN Job center and tell them you want to apply for that grant. You have to submit it to them in either October or November if you just started your program in the fall. They'll start paying in January. They do not pay for your first semester of nursing school. Not sure how it works for those who are already licensed. They pay for everything as well, but no stipend....BUT at the same time, no 2 year commitment. I prefer nurse corp, but that's my back up and for whoever else needs one ?

I haven't gotten my credit ran either, but I just unfreezed it and the rep said if they would have attempted to run an applicant's credit and failed, they email you 3 times basically begging you to unfreeze it. Be positive. They stated the money usually covers all of Tier 1. If you are in Tier 1 and meet the EFC requirement I wouldn't worry. No clue why it's taking so long though. On Youtube this girl said they didn't notify her until September and didn't pay until October. School started for me on the 16th. I had to pay for my books and uniforms out of pocket with savings because I quit my job to be dedicated. Also because I already have a bachelor's I'm out of financial aid. I'm pretty confident we'll get it. If not, that's just crazy. They're giving away all of this money for everything else when nurses are super essential right now. They also extended the deadline, which tells me they were practically begging for more applicants. Why else would they extend it? Also if you're missing required documents the rep said your status would not even get to under review. Your app would have gotten tossed, so under review is the first small leap. Yay. I tend to see the cup as half full all the time, so hopefully this brings you a little hope, and when you get it, just know I told you so ?
