Houston Nurse Residency Fall 2021
Thank you for the reply. Appreciate it! Is that from personal experience or what you heard from others? Anything else you can share would be great because I might have to prepare myself to work for them. I did some search on HCA in allnurses and found mostly negative posts from out-of-state; so I like to hear experiences from the Houston-Texas area. I read the Glass Door reviews and they write about high patient load and poor management which is similar to other health systems. I had an interview with MH last week. I hope I hear back from them. I have an offer from Encompass but would rather work in a hospital than a rehab. Hence HCA is my only option for now.

Houston Nurse Residency Fall 2021
Link to news regarding Houston Methodist and vaccine: https://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=C49G-TNm1JU If you are going to apply to Houston Methodist the COVID vaccine will be required and with Memorial Hermann it is encouraged that employees will be vaccinated.... are you ready for this? I just find this interesting. Don't need to know if anyone here is going to not. That is your right and private but interesting to think about when applying to the residency program.

For their application, only had resume and transcripts listed. It is always good to have several letters just in case and to put on file.

Lone Star College 2021 LVN-RN Transition
For the Transition students... the HESI Midterm is at the end of the Summer. It is the combined material of N1 and N2 of the generic students (ADN program fall and Spring). The Generics take a Summer break while LVNs of June 2021 learn in the Summer for the Transition semester. The LVNs and Generics merge in Fall which is N3. There is a Final Exam at end of this semester but given by the Nursing Dept (not HESI). So use the grid to study the power point/textbook of those topics. N4 is in the Spring. There is Exit HESI. It is cumulative from N1-N4. .

Lone Star College 2021 LVN-RN Transition
I am surprise there are not more messages for this subject. Maybe everyone is on facebook! Anyway, just wanted to share some knowledge on the Transition Program for NORTH HARRIS. Summer is going to be your HARDEST semester. Plan early and stay on top. Sometimes work hours will have to be sacrificed to make sure you pass the exams and turn in your assignments. There were LVNs who did not move to N3 because their average was 74.45.... The Nursing Dept will only round the 74.53. Summer is the HARDEST because your Transition Semester is the combined coursework of N1 and N2 (which generic students learned per semester) and you, LVNS, only have one semester to know the material. Hence you can expect an exam almost every week. We had 6 unit exams in this order: RON/Biopsych, NDEEE, Protect & Regulatory, Oxy/Circ, Neuro/Mus, Mat/Newborn. Each of these exams can cover 15-30 chapters, again you are learning for 2 semesters worth. Besides exam almost every week, you have to pass the math exam of at least 90 % score (which you get 3 attempts). In addition for the clinical component, you will have Care Plans/Care Maps do which can take 10-16 hrs of your time. My clinical group did 2 of them. Some clinical instructors may require you to write specialty papers also. Since my cohort was in the middle of COVID pandemic, our skills were checked-off virtually. I assume all of you are going to labs, have clinicals and will have a few Vsim assignments. Then turn in your Portfolio. You have a lot on your plate!! Lastly, at the end of your Transition Summer, there is the HESI Mid-Term. Correlate "the grid" (what will be introduced in orientation) of topics in N1 & N2 with the HESI book and you are good to do well, pass, and move onto N3. In N3, my cohort had the pharmacology exam the first/second week after orientation. Make a note book of meds during the Summer! We still had the 6 unit exams. Turn in Portfolio. Then there is the final which is given by the Nursing Dept. (not HESI) and you can go over power points and reinforce the lecture stuff by going through the book. N4.. Still had 6 unit exams, complete portfolio, prepare for nurse interview jobs, and prepare for the EXIT HESI, Hope this info helps. N3 & N4 was manageable because exams were every 2-2.5 weeks, plus had holidays between. GOOD LUCK!! I am hoping for ALL to make it graduation and cheering for YOU!

I can tell you that from the Group Me for Transition 2020... there are at least 48 members. We lost people that I know of... at least 3 in the Summer, 1 in the fall and another person in the last semester.

Houston Nurse Residency Fall 2021
Hi Sabrina. What kind of strings attached that may exist? Since you mentioned, I wonder if you may have knowledge of some from your experience. HCA gave me the congratulations acceptance letter with important details, as well as packet to order their uniform. The recruiter said I will have more forms coming when closer to my starting residency date. Encompass is not only Home Health but has a SNF with ratio of 1:5-8 which is better than what I had of 1:12-16. Anyway, Encompass is giving me two weeks to decide. My interest is to work in a hospital; so this is not an optimal option for me. Anyway, just providing information of my experiences in case it can be helpful to other new grads.

Hi Linda! I wasn't able to attend the pre-match day info session so thank you for the info. Memorial Hermann is a trusted name and I was hoping would offer more incentives. I suppose the trade off would be to receive quality training with the residency program to advance further. I graduated this past May.

Houston Nurse Residency Fall 2021
Hi everyone. Which is better: Memorial Hermann, HCA, or Encompass? Went for interview for HCA. Got ICU-Day at HCA West which is 8 mins from me; pay was $30.50 with LVN experience, original was $29.50; $5,000 sign-on bonus. I wasn't expecting the sign on bonus. Encompass is offering new grad $33/hr with LVN experience and $10,000 sign on bonus. Will Memorial Hermann offer something like this?
