Drexel vs. Holy Family
Hey, I've talked to 3 recent grads of HFU (2018, 2020, and 2021), and all of them had positive feedback on the program. They all enjoyed their clinicals and the overall structure of the program. There are 2 classes to complete each 8 weeks. All of them passed the NCLEX at their first attempt and found a job within 2 months after getting their license. I myself am not in a rush and would rather do 14 month, plus the HFU is cheaper than Drexel, although I have 0 info on that program. In any case, here is my 5 cents.

PLU, ELMSN-PACIFIC LUTHERAN University 2022
I have decided to move forward with another school. PLU was my dream program and #1 choice, but I've come to realization that I don't quite need a Masters degree just yet, and it would be unwise to invest so much time and money towards it. I will be letting them know soon, and hope whoever ended up on a waitlist will get a chance with this extra spot. Good luck to you guys!

@zxcvb Hey, I'm moving from CA as well! Never been to Pittsburgh and plan to go visit for a weekend to check if out and get familiar with some neighborhoods. I've come across some articles and reddit threads on places to live/safe areas, but so far have no clear picture. I'll keep you posted! Where in CA are you?

@Rjmetzker yes, their gradadmission email. weird that it went to my spam since I'd received emails from that address before, and they were going through.

@Rjmetzker thank you! not sure if I can afford PLU, and honestly, not sure if I really need an MSN at this point. I have 2 weeks to decide. @Zackattack don't give up just yet, it's still early, and you are an amazing candidate! Wishing you luck!

YOU GUYS CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER! I'm so glad I emailed them, they just called me and said they had sent my admission letter a week ago. It's been sitting in my spam folder for a whole week. I got in!

@Rjmetzker @Zackattack @nursegal you know what, I'm gonna email her as well haha. Hopefully, this will give them a nudge (I doubt they care though). I've been accepted to two other programs, and they need me to let them know, so I can't wait forever...

I'm originally from Russia, living in LA right now. Got my bachelors back in Russia, GPA 3.2. Prereq GPA 4.0. Volunteered at a local hospital for 3 years (bedside care, ER). Work at a non-profit providing social services to people in need.

@Zackattack Yay! Good luck to us! I submitted my application 2 days ago. Judging by last year, we should hear back in February. Do you mind sharing your stats?

Volunteering
While I do agree with the idea that your volunteering should be community service first and foremost, not all volunteering is practical for careers in healthcare. I would suggest looking into social service options in your area along with volunteering at a hospital. Big hospitals are always short on volunteers and rely on their help, especially at emergency departments.

Full time job and prerequisites
Hi there! I'm in the same situation + I have a foreign BA, so English is not my first language. My advice is to start taking your prerequisites as soon as you can. I'm not super strong at math, but even for me, stats was a piece of cake. Take one difficult class + one easy class per semester, it is very much doable even with a full-time job.
