New PCT & Nursing Student.. any advice?
I recently got hired at the biggest hospital in my area as a patient care technician. I start in a month and it’s my first health care job. I’m working on the Acute Care for Elderly unit, and I’m sooo nervous. I also start nursing school in January. I just wanted any advice you might have to offer/tips for starting as a new PCT or even a new nursing student? I want to be a sponge and learn as much as I can, and be as helpful as possible to the patients and nurses.

I’m so sorry to hear to didn’t get in ? that’s so silly to me that having your CNA helps you get in easier. Especially if you’ve taken the CNA class already.. because when you take the HLH you don’t have to take the CNA exam so it shouldn’t matter whether you’re certified or not. Don’t give up! You should just be able to schedule the exam with prometric since you’ve already completed the class.

I’m at Stanton campus. Also, I should clarify, I got a “preliminary acceptance” letter. It says there’s a few more steps I need to take, like provide my CNA license number and they’ll email me the steps on how to finish completing my acceptance. I didn’t mean to stress you guys out ?? I hope you two hear something soon!! There’s still so much time.

One piece of advice you wish you knew when starting?
Hi! I’m currently enrolled in CNA training because it’s required for school but the further I go into my training, the more I realize I’d like to work as a CNA or a PCT while in nursing school.. My heart is so in it & I want to make a difference in my residents lives as much as I can. That being said - I’m curious, what’s one piece of advice you wish you knew when starting as a CNA/PCT or some advice you’d give to a newbie? Also, would you recommend applying at a hospital first, or a nursing home/assisted living/long term care facility?

@Determination28 thank you for replying! & Dawn career institute! The state of Delaware is/was offering a covid grant for 100% covered tuition for CNAs. I saw that and jumped at the chance — I figured even if I didn’t get into the program for Spring of ‘22 at deltech, I can get some experience as a CNA until I do.

Deltech ranking process? Applying in August
Hii! I was reading through the forums and didn’t see any recent posts made about delaware tech so I figured I’d ask! I’m applying in August and I was just curious if anyone was accepted at the Stanton campus with 14 out of 16 points. I got a B in anatomy, an A in nursing math, I’m a Delaware resident & I scored in the 88th percentile on my TEAS.. leaving me with 14 points total. I’m also currently completing my CNA certification which will exempt me from taking the HLH course. That being said, I know it’s super competitive so I’m nervous 14 won’t be enough. Good luck to anyone applying!
