UK Staff nurse to US RN - is it possible?
@CourtyJ you could try to register with NY BON. UK trained nurses seem to get through better with them and are allowed to take NCLEX without having to top up any hours. But in your situation with 0 hours, you may want to contact your UNI and ask them to review your degree. Adult nursing is the general track and should have covered a bit of everything. If you get your NY BON ATT and pass NCLEX and live close enough to commute from NJ to NY, you could work as an RN in NY while working on your NJ license. NJ may still require those hours but you could be earning and learning while working on your NJ license. Hope that's makes sense. Just some ideas. It's such a journey! Also some colleges do have programs for USA nurses returning to practice and foreign nurses as well. Give your local community college a call.

UK Staff nurse to US RN - is it possible?
This thread is so helpful. I have applied to NYBON and am still waiting for a response on whether or not my UK Adult Nursing degree is acceptable to then go on and take the NCLEX. My plan is to apply by endorsement to PA or NC (now that I know another UKRN has been successful there!). I will keep updating as I go along and ask that others please share their journey as well...the good bad and ugly but hopefully Good!

UK Staff nurse to US RN - is it possible?
Hi. In a similar situation. I do know of UK trained RNs that have successfully obtained their license in the US through the state of NY having completed Adult nursing which is the general track. I am in the process of applying through CGFNS and have already paid for the CES report to be sent to the Pennsylvania BON but am trying to change to the NY CVS service. I think NY may be slightly easier to obtain a license but there is still the process to convert to another state if not actually residing in NY. I am researching as I go along.

Irish trained psychiatric nurse to usa
Hi! Interested to follow your journey. I am an adult-trained (general) nurse. Trained in England. I also am a US citizen. I am trying to get my Pennsylvania license and relocate back home. I will post any info I come across for your husband. As far as I know, he may need to do a course to top up any deficiencies in the different areas ie. paeds, adult, midwifery. I've been told the best way to find out is to apply to the board. Do you have your PA RN license by chance? Thank you and all the best!

UK to USA
Hiya, Thank you for your reply! So it can be done! Did you apply while in Scotland? Also was there a particular reason why you chose the state of NY? I have heard some states are more favourable to overseas trained RNs. How long was the process? Were you required to top up education for example in psych, paeds or maternity? Any tips or advice are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

UK to USA
Hi All, I am a UK adult trained nurse with 4 years experience. I am hoping to work in USA as a nurse. I am curious if anyone has successfully gone through the cgfns process and what the experience was like? Particularly if you were granted ATT or if you fell short in clinical/ theory hours? If so, how did you deal with this? Any suggestions or advice welcomed! Thank you.
