  1. You’re welcome! I know they’ve been changing around the first semester schedule and I think a recent change is adding sim lab to first semester. They add clinical sites for second semester which include Hoag (Newport beach location), UCI, Los Alamitos medical center. Third semester adds Choc hospital! The professors in my experience have all been very nice, even the intimidating ones are actually sweethearts. The nurses at our clinical sites always get excited about GWC students because we can do so much (you can start IV’s in second semester!) and are always on top of it! You’ll come across tons of GWC grads at the clinical sites as well and they are always helpful to talk to. I’m biased towards GWC of course but you’ll be in good hands and receive great education at either school you choose!
  2. Hi, the schedule for first semester students for the fall is Monday 8am-2pm and Tuesdays 8am-12:55pm and an online course on Tuesdays 5pm-7pm for 8 weeks (it’s not a hard class at all). The Monday class is going to be in the lab where you learn skills and do simulations. Tuesday will be lecture, and the online course is professional nursing where you’ll learn about the ethics of nursing and nursing diagnoses etc. It seems like they changed it up since I was in first semester (I’ll be entering my third semester this fall) because we had a Friday class that was also lab and for the recent Spring semester the first semester students had a Thursday lab ?‍♀️. By week 7 you’ll be starting clinical at the hospitals which include Huntington Beach hospital, Fountain Valley Regional, Orange Coast Memorial.
  3. I don’t know the exact amount but we have a few alternates that got in. If you look in the past replies the alternates didn’t know their number or that they were even on the alternate list! I didn’t even receive an acceptance/rejection letter and in early July they called me and offered me a spot. I had 82 points. It seems like the cut off was around 84 and there were alternates with 84 points as well.
  4. Hi everyone ? So to those who were accepted and have done everything for pre-enrollment: does anyone have experience with what might happen if my titers are negative? I’m worried about them not coming back positive for immunity ?
  5. Thank you! She said the orientation date is august 9th, and told me they would email me a MOU to my school email. So now I’m just anxiously waiting around for an email hoping they didn’t forget about me or change their mind LOL!! It just feels so surreal. I wonder why they didn’t just email me though because I was so close to ignoring the call and going back to bed?? Did they tell you anything else in your email?
  6. Thank you!! ? I’m very eager to start this new chapter of my life, I’ve been out of school for a year now and I miss it LOL ? And I had 82 points. I took pharmacology there + the intro to nursing class and I got my CNA license last Summer (no work experience tho) which really helped boost my points.
  7. AHH ME TOO!! They called me right when I woke up, I’m so glad I didn’t ignore the phone call ? It doesn’t even feel real, like I’m in disbelief. I was going to apply again for the Spring semester today too ? I never received a rejection letter or a letter saying I’m an alternate.
  8. I’m embarrassed to say how many times I’ve applied, I feel like they’re going to have to accept me out of pity this round ? I’ll be applying with 82 points but when I first applied I’m pretty sure I had 74. Hopefully our hard work will finally pay off this time. Good luck everyone!!
  9. Okay glad I’m not the only one ? still haven’t received anything which is so weird since the next application filling period is in a few days. Oh well... time to get ready to apply again LOL!
  10. I had 82 points if they counted my CNA license. I thought I’d at least get on the alternate list ?
  11. Is there anyone who wasn’t accepted and still haven’t received any sort of rejection letter? At this point I’m worried they never got my application, usually they send out the rejection letters with the acceptance letters. Receiving nothing feels worse than a rejection letter LOL!
  12. I haven’t gotten an email so I’m assuming I didn’t get accepted, which means it’s my fourth rejection. I had 82 points and was confident I’d get in this time around since people in the previous semesters like last fall got accepted with points in the low 80s. Nursing feels like a pipe dream at this point. Don’t know what to change my Congrats to everyone who got accepted though.
  13. I’ve been lurking these forums for a few years now and from what I’ve seen the cut off is usually around 78-82 points depending on the semester. I think the cut off for points for Spring 2021 was 78 but it looks like Fall 2021 is 88 points which is the highest I’ve ever seen it. With 87 points you will most definitely be able to get in, and if anything you’ll get on the alternate list. I know people who got accepted off the bottom of the alternate list with 72 points. It really just depends on how competitive each semester is, but I don’t think you have to worry with 87 points! ?
  14. That should at least get you on the top of the alternate list hopefully! But I understand how you feel, I was going to search to get a CNA job but got cold feet because of covid and figured “well last fall the cutoff was around 80 so I should be in the safe zone!” ? I’m so tired of waiting around only to get another rejection letter... especially since so many of my friends have graduated already, I feel behind ? July feels sooooo far away! Mid June would be so much better.
  15. Omgggg 88!?!? That’s the highest it’s ever been and I’ve been lurking the forums since 2016! I was pretty confident this time around since I had 82 points and for the last few semesters the cutoff was usually around there. Welp there goes my dreams, it’s my fourth time applying maybe it’s a sign to change majors? Haha
  16. I think if you passed but want to improve your score, you have to wait at least one year to retake it. If you retake it within a year and wanted to apply, I’m not sure that they will take that second score. But if you didn’t get a passing score you can retest within a year.
  17. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, it’s still not counting my CNA license. I even emailed the nursing department and they said they attempted to fix the issue ?
  18. I just emailed the nursing department! ? I know they might be getting lots of emails but hopefully I hear back from them soon regarding this issue.
  19. There’s a check box that asks if you have worked in health services and if you check yes it shows a few boxes you have to fill out. It asks to describe the work experience, how many hours you worked, when you completed the hours, and to upload a letter with required information (I’m assuming a letter from work). It also has the option to check what licenses and certifications you have and to upload the license/certificate but if you fill this out it doesn’t give you any points. I even filled out the option for volunteer experience (I don’t have any, I just wanted to see what would happen) and uploaded my license and it only gave me five points for the volunteer experience when it should give me ten points for those two things combined. I’m thinking of emailing them since it seems like something is wrong here. I really hope they are still giving points if you just have a license and nothing has changed. I wanted to work after getting mine but I live in a high risk household and didn’t want to risk exposing my mom to covid ?
  20. Have you sent a message to the nursing department regarding this? I’m having the same issue. It’s not giving me points for my license yet the multi-criteria guideline says you receive points for having the license. It’s been like that for years so I’m confused and frustrated.
  21. With 89 points I honestly think you’ll definitely get in!! The cut off last semester was 78 I think. But hopefully you’ll also hear from CSULB! It’s insane how competitive the schools are here.
  22. I just checked, if you go to the how to apply page there’s a button for the application! It takes you to the mycoast portal login. They probably just updated it.
  23. Thank you! And yeah, they only look at your composite score! I’m glad they only look at the composite score since I didn’t do too well on the reading and English sections. I know some schools like CSULB look at the composite score and the reading score (not sure if that’s changed). And yeah sadly for GWC if you want to retake it you have to wait a year unless you didn’t pass : / I can’t remember how it is for other schools though.
  24. Hey that’s okay, your points are great! I’ll be happy if I get placed on the alternate list tbh. I remember when I would read older forums I would see some people with 80+ points get in so once my point total reached 80 I might’ve gotten a little emotional LOL. I’ve put so many years towards this I just refuse to give up at this point even though I feel like it at times. A lot of my family members are already giving me that “well... can you change your major? Have you though about _____ instead?” conversation ? I’m crossing my fingers for all of us!
