  1. Hey, fellow NYC new grad here. I also went through 2 rounds of interview for a position last week. Here is my timeline with the update on my application: 10/13 Applied to position, "application submitted" 10/14 Received interview request, "in process" 10/16 Interview with recruiter/HR, received link for references, "assessment/references" 10/18 In-person interview, still "assessment/references" The PCD (who was the nurse manager of the unit) said to hear back by next week. It's been one week and yet no response. Each day, it becomes a waiting game as I feel less hopeful and more anxious. For me, the unit I was going for had a day and night position and I applied to both. I got the interview for the night position and it's still active. The day position became inactive and I was "no longer under consideration". That might be the case, if not, then I'm not sure. Hopefully you get the job!
  2. I am actually not sure but I am assuming that we don't need the uniforms for the anatomy lab because that isn't a course that is exclusive to nursing students. We would only need the uniforms for the nursing courses (that have labs and clinicals). The BIOL lab has BIO majors, so, in my opinion, I wouldn't wear them because I don't want to stand out. Basically, BIOL courses: don't need uniform. NURS courses: need uniform.
  3. @youngj I'm sorry, but I can't let you borrow mine because I got the uniforms and ordered the wrong size so they are too big for me. I looked at the size chart wrong ?. Mine took a whole month (5 weeks) to come, it should probably take the same amount of time for you. Since we are in the Generic program, our clinicals and nursing labs don't start until the Spring semester (because we'll be taking NURS 210: Fundamentals of Nursing in the Spring). The classes we're taking in the Fall (NURS 200 and NURS 240) don't have clinicals and lab. Those in the A2D program or juniors in the Generic program will have clinicals and lab in the Fall semester. I hope that we don't need them in the Fall because I'll be doomed ?.
  4. @youngj I didn't email yet, but I will definitely reply YES.
  5. @Jose Z Other than emailing the pre-nursing advisor about our acceptance and attending the orientation soon, is there anything else that we have to do?
  6. Me too. I am SO EXCITED!
  7. @Jose Z Thank you so much! Chem 120 was the most stressful class. But, just out of curiosity, are you an upcoming junior or senior? Also, what were your stats when you got in the program?
  8. @Tanu I am actually not sure, but I think that it should be the same process as when you did it from last time. I assume, yes, that it should also be an updated transcript with the new grades from Spring.
  9. @Tanu I emailed the pre-nursing advisor about sending an updated transcript a week ago and she said: "You don't have to submit additional transcripts to the school. We will download the transcript internally from CUNYfirst". But, I will still update it on NursingCas just in case.
  10. @youngj @Ety @deanie Hey guys, I just want to let you know that my advisor told me that we should hear back in around May. If we don't hear back by May, then it could be in June. Good luck with this semester and I hope that we get in.
  11. @DaniellaC It's the reason why everyone kept on saying Hunter's nursing program are competitive because people have such high stats. I am applying to the generic program. I hope that we get in. My academic advisor said that we might hear back in May and if not, by June. Last year, people heard back in June so I also expect to hear back at around that time.
  12. @DaniellaC Are you also going for Hunter's generic nursing or are you going for the A2D or RN to BSN?
  13. Hi @DaniellaC. I took the test last week. I got 141 and my GPA is 4. I agree. I just skimmed through the verbal section and I was very surprised that I got over two-thirds of the questions right.
  14. @deanie Your score is AMAZING! Your stats are just as GOOD. Yeah, I hope that we have a chance. We must stay strong this semester just like in the previous semester. I agree, I feel okay with all my other classes. I am just having a hard time and hate the Chemistry classes (CHEM 121 and CHEM 120). They make it difficult for no reason, which makes me wonder why people would want to major in Chemistry. It is so hard to understand. Science is literally a whole new language.
  15. @deanie I forgot the mention, there are also students from the nursing honors scholar program. Students in that program get immediate entry into the nursing program. All they have to do is just take the prerequisites and pass the classes. They don't have to do the NursingCas application and they don't have to take the NLN-PAX test. I am so jealous of them and if only I had known about that sooner. You can only apply for the honors scholar program at the same time you apply to hunter college as an incoming freshman (in other words, applying as a high school senior). I don't know how many students are in the honors scholar program, but they are also going for the generic program. Knowing that there are about 100 seats for the generic program, in reality, there are even less seats for students who are not in the honors scholar program.
  16. @deanie I actually don't know but, it is obvious that it is very competitive. As you said, there are applicants from current freshmen and returning applicants from sophomores who did not get in last year. Not everyone has a chance of getting in because even the website said that no one is guaranteed entry into the program. It all depends on how well you do as a student. They look at the GPA and NLN composite score, which you can expect, everyone will have high stats. I have heard from multiple sources that even if you have either a high GPA, high NLN score or a high GPA & NLN score, you may not even get in. However, there were students who got in with low stats. If you are lucky enough, there is a chance that that could happen, but it will be extremely low. Honestly, it all depends on the applicants. There are also transfer students. They usually go for the accelerated nursing program (A2D: accelerate 2nd degree), which accepts even fewer people, 30 people. According to the pre-nursing advisor, she said that the average GPA is 3.5 and the average NLN score is 150. Do you mind if I ask, what are your stats?
  17. @youngj I am pretty sure that when you registered or created your NLN account, you should have selected Hunter College as the school. Once your exam result comes out, the score report should be automatically sent to the school. I just sent an email to the testing center the next day to make sure that they got my score report and they said that it was automatically received. Just send the testing center an email asking them if your score report was automatically sent to Hunter College's School of Nursing. They should reply very soon saying that the score report was received.
  18. Hey, I am back with another long comment. No problem, I wish you the best of luck. By the way, the name of the practice tests are called: PAX Prep Science Exam and PAX Prep Verbal Exam. Each is $25, but trust me, it was worth the money. I actually didn't study for the vocab at all. I originally thought about studying prefixes, affixes, and suffixes, but I eventually gave up on that (studying for vocab). I also tried Quizlet, vocabulary.com, and downloaded some vocab apps, but I didn't find it useful because I had no determination. It is literally impossible to study for the vocab because there could be any word on that test. When I did the practice tests in the red book, I always got about 26 or 30 questions right in the verbal section because I was terrible at vocab. I was just like you, I had zero confidence with vocab. That was why, I decided to but the $25 practice test for the verbal. The only thing that helped me was the practice tests from there because I did not expect to see vocab questions from that practice test on the actual test. It was a life saver. Just remember the questions and answers to the vocab in the practice test because I had a few of those questions on my actual test. The same goes with the science, try to remember the questions and answers. I am glad to be of any help to those who need it because I understand the amount of stress and questions people are having, so I am doing what I can to help. Also, remember to manage your time and always go back to check your answers when you can. To ensure that Hunter college received your score report, just send an email to the testing center (I can't put their email here, but you can always look it up. Look up: Hunter testing center). About the computer I used to take the test, I used a Windows laptop and used Google Chrome to take the test. I am not sure about MackBook Pro, but I don't think that it should be a problem. Just remember to download this because it is required for the test: https://support.questionmark.com/content/installing-questionmark-secure-mac (This the Mac version. You can uninstall this after you finish the test because I didn't want to keep this in my laptop.) I am not sure about using Safari to take the test, but I would suggest to use Google Chrome. Make sure, in your Chrome settings, that your pop-up is not blocked. Allow for pop-up for the Zoom when you take the test: https://support.questionmark.com/content/running-questionmark-secure Also, if you have any other questions, refer to this pdf: https://na158.salesforce.com/sfc/p/#0b000000DYzq/a/5a000000FUQw/M3G8aN_.UzyJXTFngHzN3Aho0DNnH6v17A61jPfxE48
  19. I forgot to mention, just to clear up any confusion, each study guide is $25. The verbal section on the actual test has 6 passages, 5 questions each. For each passage, you must submit the answers to those questions in order to go to the next passage. Once you submit those, you can't go back to check your answers to those questions. You could, however, go back to check your answers to the vocab questions with the remaining time you have. The same goes for the math and science questions. When you have time left, use the time to go back and check your answers. As you already know, each section has 40 minutes. Make sure you have a whiteboard and a basic calculator. And lastly, good luck. I hope you do well. It was such as relief to finally get the test over with, so definitely reward yourself afterward from all that stress and studying. The results come out 4 hours after you finish the test. Let me know how it went for you and let's share our stats.
  20. I will be very honest you and tell you everything that I know, so beware of this super long post with my insider tips and any grammatical errors. Honestly, in my test, I did not see any questions from the red book. I bought 3 of the $25 study guides (verbal, math, and science) and worked on those questions for about 2 weeks. The $25 study guides give practice questions, are untimed, have unlimited tries, and you can go back to check your answers (you can also see which ones were right or wrong, it'll even tell you the answers). REMEMBER THOSE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS BECAUSE THEY WERE ON MY ACTUAL TEST. The verbal study guide had 4 passages (5 questions each) and 26 vocab questions. The science study guide had 50 questions. The math study guide had 50 questions, no need to stress about this section. You can purchase the math study guide if you want, but it won't be necessary because you will be fine without it. As you are going the practice tests, you can look up answers. I bought the study guide for each section: verbal, math, and science. You won't necessarily need the math one, but the verbal and science study guides were a MUST because I saw some questions from the study guide on the actual test. I was so shocked. Purchasing the study guides were SO WORTH IT. I also felt so worried and unprepared with my studying, but I was SAVED by those study guides. I saw questions from the vocab of the verbal study guide on the actual test. In the test, I also got the same vocab question twice. Weird. Anyways, I STRONGLY recommend buying the study guides to not only remember the practice questions from the study guide but to also get used to the formatting of the test. The formatting of the test was exactly the same format as the practice test in the study guide. When I mention study guide, I meant the $25 practice prep from the NLN website, where you registered your account and bought the actual NLN-PAX exam. Also, there is a cheaper option, the $20 version. I did not buy that one because it was timed, but you can choose to buy that if you want. One last thing, when you purchase the $25 study guides, it will give you a pdf version of the red book of the section you bought. In other words, if you buy the science study guide, the science review in the red book will be in that pdf. In addition, I also bought the red book, but it was outdated because I saw the pdf version updated the review. For example, in the pdf version, it said something about lime water turning cloudy when there is CO2. I had this question in the practice test in the study guide and in the actual test. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.
  21. Hey, I took the test today. I got a composite score of 141, which is 97th percentile. I bought the study guides from the actual website and I was very surprised to see actual questions from there.
  22. How was the verbal section? I am most nervous about that section because I really suck at vocab. When I did the practice tests in the red book, I always about half wrong because of the vocab. How was the other sections? Was the math and science sections hard? Could you use a calculator in the science section? I meant to ask, was any of the questions in the book or official study guides on the actual test? What surprising concepts or questions did you see on the test that you were surprised about?
  23. Yes, I am very sure that they will also look at our Spring 2021 GPA because we have to complete this semester's prerequisites. I did not take my NLN yet, but I am so nervous. I don't feel prepared. Did you happen to see any questions that were in the red book or in the official study guides?
  24. I wish you the best of luck! ? I plan on taking it in a little over a week, but let's keep each other updated. Let me know how the test was and let's share our stats. My GPA is 4.0. I also aim to get in the 140s or above, but I am afraid that I won't get that high.
