Hi, I am a recent grad with the ABSN program, the Cincinnati location. I finished in fall of 2020. In terms of what you are getting for your money, unfortunately, it leaves a lot to be desired. If you are a self driven person, and are willing to teach yourself and stay on top of things, and Xavier is your only choice for nursing school, I would say go for it. The majority of people in my cohort would find it difficult to say one positive thing about the program, but if I'm being realistic, they are an accredited program and I believe their name still carries a lot of weight in Ohio. I received several offers from multiple units in Cincinnati where the managers specifically said that they think highly of Xavier grads. I now work on a critical care floor at Ohio State. I always saw this program as a means to an end, and ultimately, I received a BSN and passed my boards which is the main goal of any nursing program. I also missed out on more than half of my in person clinicals during covid but that is no fault of Xavier. I am actually grateful that they got me out in time and did not have to extend the program. I would hope that they are letting students go to more clinicals now that the covid situation is more under control. If you do choose Xavier ABSN, know that it is not all doom and gloom, there are individuals that are willing to help and accommodate you. I cannot speak for the Columbus location, but one reason I believe the Cincy location has a bad rep is I have heard no good things about the dean of the ABSN program. When the leadership is bad, I think that can trickle down to the rest of the faculty. If you want a transparent and supportive nursing program that is communicative with their students, Xavier may not be the best choice. But if you know what you're getting into beforehand, I'd say go for it, there is no reason why you cannot succeed. The grass is not always greener with another nursing program.
