  1. Looking for career path advice! I went into nursing school wanting to be a CNM, but after graduation, I did a nurse residency program on a med-surg floor. I lasted in med-surg for a year; my experience made me want to quit nursing altogether, and I did take a break for several months. I attempted to find a mother baby or L/D position in my new city, but after several months of applying with no luck, I ended up taking an Observation RN position within an emergency department. I am trying to decide where to go from here. I know that ultimately my goal is to go to school and become a dual WHNP/Geriatric NP and work outpatient in a private practice/clinic setting. Although I am thankful to have a job right now, I am not super interested in bedside nursing. I would love to get into a women's health clinic nurse position (or really any type of clinic position), but being in the ED right now, I am thinking it may be useful for grad school/working as an NP to do 1-2 years of emergency nursing, even though it doesn't interest me that much. Or, maybe I should keep pursuing an inpatient mother baby/L&D job and get 1-2 years of inpatient experience doing that. Maybe since my goal is the outpatient setting, gaining inpatient experience isn't that imperative at all. Would love to hear some input because I am very confused about what to do! Sorry for the novel and thanks for reading!
