  1. Hello, I'm a new nurse who is also a new ICU nurse. I've been working for a few months and gotten some feedback from my supervisor, and it's not so great. Specifically my critical thinking. I've gotten reprimanded for doing things like bringing a bairhugger into a contact room when there was already one, having to refer to my documentation to tell a patients IV drip rates or vent settings. I was just wondering how long did it take other ICU nurses to be fully confident in their assessment skills? Its so hard to fully learn about a patient.
  2. Nmink posted a topic in Critical Care
Hello I am a new graduate nurse that got hired in the ICU of my hospital, my orientation is a 8 week minimum I've been there for two weeks and feel so overwhelmed. Any advice for a new nurse? I will take ANY advice,
  3. I got a job but it took like months. And it was the only offer. So no impossible but rolling a rock up a mountain
  4. Wait until your NCLEX. I understand wanting to get your applications in but NY major hospitals aren't hiring someone with no license during this pandemic. But when you do get your license, apply EVERYWHERE. It's not impossible like others might suggest, I just managed to get a tentative offer. But it is a waiting game! You just can't give up!
  5. Honestly just apply everywhere and for everything regardless of experience. I know a co worker with the same amount of experience as me get hired at a major hospital, and all their postings ask for 2 years!
  6. Mount sinai and the VA. Try clinics associated with hospitals too. It's not acute care but a lot of them pay well enough for me not to mind LOL
  7. I don't have that high goals ill take any hospital relatively close to NYC. I've applied to Stony brook so we will see. I already have a few interviews lined up so hopw for the best! Also I'm very happy that you got a position at Stony Brook. I hope its treating you well and nursing is everything you wanted it to be ?
  8. God bless you. I just applied to every full time position LOL hopefully something pops up!
  9. I need advice on getting into a hospital. Even if there is a 1% chance. I appreciate your frankness and I understand where you are coming from. However it isn't easy for me to pick up especially in the moment. Thank you for the advice and have a lovely holiday.
  10. Hello, I am so tired of applying! Its nothing but rjection after rejection. I am at a lost on what to do at this point. I am searching for a hospital position.
  11. I work in a nursing home. I'm very desperate to leave, its a very toxic place for a new graduate nurse. I have been applying out of state but I'm very attached to my city so any opportunity to stay, I will take it. Thank you for the information. I was very confused on why everybody told me to call HR and HR didn't want to deal with me.
  12. Hello, I am new graduate in NYC very desperate for a hospital jobs. I've seen advice about calling human resources but does anyone have experience about how to go about this? When I've called, they always just tell me to check online.
  13. They have psychiatry, critical care (need 2 years med surg), and clinics. All those positions you see are filled, they just don't close them until the day the person is physically on the unit.
  14. Thank you for this advice. I didn't want to move but the job market is a lot tougher than expected in the city! A bellevue recruiter told me there was only 2 open departments for a new grad in that big hospital! Neither was accute care so I didn't pursue it. I've already sent in some Stony brook applications
  15. Yes, I don't know a single person in my class that has gotten a hospital job yet. If it wasn't for covid restrictions, I would consider showing up to the hospitals. Getting in touch with recruiters is also difficult
  16. I'm not sure if there's still a full on freeze or if they're slowly hiring. But its very tough esp as someone with no experience. Nursing home staffing rations are killing me, I hope they become more open to new grads soon
  17. I made a topic on this before bit is anyone else having trouble finding a job as a new graduate RN? I got my license in July and have only been able to snag two interviews. My resume looks like this
  18. Would It be possible for the email of this recruiter? I'm having hard time getting my foot in the door as a new grad
  19. I think its a good start to get comfortable with basic nursing. However its usually understaffed and disorganized so its not something I'd recommend staying. It also looks good on a resume when applying to hospitals.
  20. Hello, I am a new grad in nyc having trouble. I just started work in a nursing home bc I need the money. I would like a job in a hospital, any job or any hospital! Is there anything I should be doing or anyway I can do to stand out? I've been messaging recruiters on LinkedIn but only one has given me a call and im not even sure what's going to be the outcome of that.
