  1. I was someone who reapplied and was accepted on my second application cycle. I did not change my letter writers but they did send in new letters, presumably with tweaks based on the additional year that had passed. I definitely went over my written statements however, and made not insignificant changes. I also wrote down the interview questions and put a lot of thought into developing my answers more completely, as well as practicing. I felt a whole lot better about my interview the second time around. Best of luck to you on your application! It sucks to go through another years' wait but don't be disheartened!
  2. Just did here, too. Really excited to meet everyone! I haven't had a facebook account in years...
  3. Just saw my acceptance email for PMHNP and I'm overjoyed!! Big congrats to everyone who was accepted and I absolutely agree with all the others: if you weren't accepted the first time through, don't lose hope; definitely apply again. I know how crushing it can be but you'll get there. Everyone I've spoken with who applied and interviewed was amazing. You all deserve to be there. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone!
  4. Not yet. I've been waiting anxiously. Based on the responses here I assume its all been rolled out by specialty, so hopefully today will be our day!
  5. Looks like not, unfortunately. Hopefully we'll hear from the other specialties tomorrow!! It's gonna be hard to sleep. Major congratulations to everyone who was accepted!
  6. That's my specialty, too. Fingers crossed!
  7. Just checked my application and don't see any updates yet. Wonder if they're rolling them out little by little, or if it's by specialty.
  8. Hello! I was also accepted for an interview, for PMHNP, but have not yet heard from the department when that might be except for sometime during the week of January 25th. They may be sending everything out today. Know you're not alone in waiting. ?
  9. Incoming wall of text: If you're referring to setting up a meeting where we went over how I could be a better candidate, I did not do that. I'm not sure they have much time to try and go over these things with people, and I am also not sure they would necessarily divulge what hurt/helped any particular candidate. If I misunderstood what you were asking about please let me know and I'll try and address it! In my case I think a better interview would have helped my chances of admission more than anything else. As far as what I DID do: I did email each of my interviewers a personal message to thank them for their time, no matter what the outcome was going to be. Also because I was waitlisted and not rejected outright, I technically did not know I had not been accepted until the cohort formally started instruction. In fact, on my 2020 application it still shows my status as "waitlisted". I contacted S.J. who confirmed that while it was less likely as time went on that a waitlisted candidate would move to the accepted list, it was actually possible all the way up until instruction actually started. So I ended up biting my nails for like, 5 months. I understand why things are that way but it was frustrating waiting for so long to have a definite answer. also, @Jack Robins, it appears I cannot reply to your message without a premium account. I am happy to respond to you here if you are okay with that. Once again congrats to everyone who got accepted for an interview! and to those of you who were rejected: do not despair; they made it very clear to us in the pre-interview meeting last time that it was extremely common for people to go through more than one cycle before getting accepted. My chats with the other interviewees at the time confirmed this, as well. I know its frustrating to wait-I'm there myself-but definitely try again next cycle if you can, and best of luck in doing so!!
  10. Congrats to everyone who has been notified of an interview! I got accepted to interview as well, for PMHNP. This is my second application cycle after being waitlisted last year so I am very excited! Looks like it's all done over Zoom this year, as expected given the circumstances.
  11. If its anything like last year we'll have interviews mid-January and decisions should be out by mid-February, but who knows with how things have been in 2020. My wife knows people affiliated with the program and apparently there have been many more applicants than usual. I can't speak at all to how they all are but there are more this cycle, which is difficult to hear because it is indeed already competitive. But, we will have to hope for the best and stay positive.
  12. Yikes, January is a long wait!! I understand though; communications with them have been rough this year so I figured they were busy. I have heard they have a huge influx of applicants for MEPN this cycle.
  13. Stunning that in 2021 someone teaching at one of the premier universities in the world would utter that word in class or classroom setting. The way you all handled it by supporting and being there for one another is really great. Sorry you had to be party to that kind of behavior.
  14. Interesting. I, too, received the email but when I logged in I was unable to change everything; my application appeared to be locked still. I wonder if everyone got it. Is there anyone here who applied and did NOT get an email saying their application had been opened for a deficiency?
  15. Yeah COL in SF or adjacent cities is eye-waveringly high. Unfortunately the trend of people moving out isn't happening fast enough to bring prices down across the bay area much. We live in Oakland and it's still absurd. We do love it here, though. I gave a lot of thought to going back east or the midwest for school but being a little older and having family here with health problems sort of put the kibosh on that, plus many programs would take 4-5 years total for me to specialize. I have a laser focus on PMHNP so I went after schools that allowed me to train that focus most efficiently. While the thought of moving to the other end of the country isn't top on my list, the program at Yale is excellent and allows me to specialize, plus I've been itching to experience a real Winter for once. ? These programs are competitive so its something of a long shot for me. Being waitlisted last year was frustrating, but just gotta forge ahead. We were told that it is very common to not get accepted on the first application year, and my talks with student in the program confirm that. I wish you the best in your applications! May you get the opportunity to choose between multiple acceptances.
  16. Two things: I am local to UCSF and was not initially interested in moving far away for family reasons, so I only applied there last year. Plus my wife is a gradate of a different specialty there and I am pretty familiar with the program and what it entails. What they both have in common that interests me is the way the program is structured, 3 years, and they both have a strong social justice focus. I have worked in county funded psych facilities for years in underserved areas and with underserved populations, and those are the places I am committed to continuing my work in. The lack of access to care for many living only a short car ride out of population centers is astounding, and my desire is to help ameliorate that to whatever extent I can.
  17. To Yale? Not yet; still working on it.
  18. Hello to everyone here! I'm applying for GEPN this year and wanted to join the thread to keep up on things. My chosen specialty is PMHNP, as it is a field I have worked in for a number of years in a non-clinical capacity. Is anyone else applying to other programs as well? I applied to UCSF last year and was waitlisted, so am reapplying this year. The Yale and UCSF program seem very similar, which is what drew me to them over others. Having to take the GRE was a downer but I did okay, if not exceptional. I originally took it 5 1/2 years ago, which was 6 months longer than the scores were valid. Oh well. I wish everyone the best with their apps!
  19. Well, finally got everything finished and submitted. Hopefully everyone else was able to, as well. I was wondering if anyone has had an issue my final recommender is having: she logs into the site UCSF emails her but where she is meant to check the box next to my name, there is a blank screen instead. I thought it might be a computer setting but she has tried it on more than one computer, with the same result. We both emailed --------------------- but I know they are swamped, so I'm not sure how long it will take for him to get to it. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you resolve it? My whole application hangs on her getting that recommendation in, so I'm definitely feeling the pressure.
  20. Hello everyone! First post here. I'm applying to the PMHNP specialty this term. I applied last year and was waitlisted so this will be my second application cycle. I lurked here last year but figured I would participate this time. Might try applying for a couple other programs as well but I'm a California native and it's my strong desire to stay in state, both short and long term. We'll see how it goes and I wish everyone luck!
