Colorado school programs & job market
I can't believe no one ever replied. Honestly I'm uncertain which I'd vote for given I'm in a similar predicament currently. I'm applying to Colorado Mountain College for the ADN program, and I'm also applying to many ABSN programs (not in Colorado), one of which I was accepted into, Creighton, but it's in Grand Island, Central Nebraska in the middle of nowhere. I see the benefit of going to a community college type RN program, saving money, but not time, on your education. After graduating and getting a job as an RN, having your hospital pay for your BSN OR MSN makes sense. However, I am an older student and think I may opt to just go for the ABSN and pay more in favor of saving time. You also need to factor in the salary you could earn working as a nurse if you finish a nursing program in 1 year (ABSN) vs 2 years (ADN). Depending on where you get that first job, that could be a good $100k in earnings you miss out on by taking the longer and cheaper route. What did you end up doing?

ABSN Creighton Grand Island, Central Nebraska Spring 2021
Hey ya'll! I just received my acceptance from Creighton, and at first I was thrilled, then I read that it is for their Grand Island, Central Nebraska location, which is 2 hours southeast of Omaha, sort of in the middle of nowhere. I'll be moving from San Francisco, so it will be quite the change, though I likely won't have time for anything other than school, so I guess I'm not THAT worried about the desolate location. While I'm grateful for any acceptance at all, I can't help but be concerned about the program. I've read such mixed reviews on here, though most of the negative ones are from several years ago. Any current or former students at Omaha have any feedback about the program? Do you feel supported? Are students and faculty very religious, and treat you differently if you are not? Do you know anything about Grand Island area? I am ethnically mixed, bisexual, and have many tattoos, and a few piercings. Are people... accepting of difference there? I know I'm not going to Omaha, but it's the closest similar program. Their program at Grand Island, Central Nebraska location is new, and I think Spring 2021 may be their first cohort. My plan thus far is to still await word from the 8 other schools I applied to over the month of October before I make a final decision regarding Creighton. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Las Vegas College
No worries, I was just wondering if you could share about the program. Are you currently enrolled? Have people dropped out? How is the staff? Thank you!

Las Vegas College
@NurseRFlowers haha! Sorry, that was my dyslexia showing. I meant to write "CSN" as in College of Southern Nevada. It definitely seems to be the cheapest route to entering into the nursing field in Las Vegas, costing only ~$10,000/year in out-of-state tuition. To my knowledge, it is also the only ADN program in LV as well. Chamberlain, UNLV, and Nevada State all have ABSN programs which range ~$40,000 total in out-of-state tuition. Having said that, CSN also happens to have the poorest reviews on yelp of any of the schools I mentioned, so... disheartening. However, it's still my top choice due to reasons you mentioned -- wanting/needing to pay out of pocket. I figure, if I get in of course, I'll get my ADN, then start working as a nurse in a hospital, and take advantage of their education reimburse to earn my RN-BSN education. So when all is said and done, only paying $20K for my entire nursing school education will be amazing, even if I have to deal with some *** teachers and administrators, as the poor CSN Yelp reviews mentioned. From where will you be relocating? I'll be moving from San Francisco if I'm accepted.

Best working conditions for English speaking nurses in Montreal?
Hey @just4 I know you haven't logged in since 2014 but I was really hoping to get some info from you. I'm interested in working in or near Montreal as well, and in one of your posts you mentioned finally finding a job outside of the province which treated you very well. Would you mind sharing which hospital that is? Thank you!

Las Vegas College
Thanks for the info again @Sperlv ! Ahh!! Now I’m even more confused haha, what you described sounds nice about the campus, but the lack of transparency leaves much to be desired. Maybe it will still be my Hail Mary school. I applied to rose man as well!! For Spring 2021! Not sure if I got in yet. When are you going? It seems like a great program, with good reviews on here. My top choice is CNS though just because it’s the more affordable route, because I’m not sure how many student loans I can get.

Las Vegas College
@KiyomiM hey, can you tell us a bit more about your experience at LVC? Do you recommend it?

Las Vegas College
@Sperlv Hey! Thanks for the response! Yeah that sounds truly awful! Where did you end up getting in?? Is it also in Vegas? After your story I was ready to write it off entirely, however upon retreading your earlier comments about their NCLEX passrate makes me hesitate... how can their passrate be so high if their are not to be trusted/ such a shady school?... I’m so fearful of not getting into any other programs that I find I’m still trying to hold onto hope for this place...

Las Vegas College
Hey! I'm considering this school as well but everything I find out about them sounds sketchier and sketchier. I did the whole phone interview with an admission counselor and I asked her point blank if they accept everyone who meets their minimum requirements, and she said "yes". While there is a part of me that was thrilled at such a guarantee considering how difficult it is to get into most nursing programs, this also sent off alarm bells. This inspired me to try digging deeper to find any information about this school from previous students then I finally found this page of reviews: https://www.yelp.com/biz/las-vegas-college-henderson Although it looks bad given all 5 were 1-star reviews, none of them were from actual students. They were all about the admission process/an admissions counselor, complaining about the lack of transparency. One says Las Vegas College has changed their name many times and one of them was "Corithian colleges which they are well known for committing fraud." Not sure how much any of that is true, but just the fact that they accept everyone I think is concern enough... Not sure if I'm still going to apply... I guess if I'm not accepted by any other school maybe... desperate times and all.
