Hi! I have a few questions for a current student as well. 1. When I was looking into DNP programs, one of my main concerns was finding a school that would let me work as an RN during the DNP portion. In your experience, are many students able to find jobs as an RN with no experience at NYP? 2. Students received a financial aid package a few weeks ago detailing scholarship awards, does Columbia offer any additional merit scholarships throughout the DNP program?

Hey! I am a biochem major with a 3.7 overall and a 3.8 prereq GPA. I have a decent amount of volunteering experience at a few hospitals and organizations at school. I have some leadership experience through research (which I love), teaching, and through a few clubs at school that I am heavily involved in. Columbia is def my top school and I hope I get in!!

Thank you so much for the info! I recently talked to a graduate from 2019 who mentioned that her cohort was required to find a job as a NP, which she needed in order to work towards her DNP. I was curious about the details, however, I was unable to find any more information on Columbia's website, so this was very helpful! Just to clarify, you mentioned that the DNP practicum was online, so does this mean that we would complete year 3 of the DNP program remotely after we found a job as an NP?

Does anyone know if we will have to complete a project, in order the receive the DNP degree, or if we will receive it automatically after successful completion of our credits? I know other schools require a DNP project, and that Columbia asked of this in the past as well, and I am just curious as to what this new system would be:)

I am also debating whether I should ask an academic advisor or doctor I shadowed for my last LOR. I was initially leaning towards the doctor, however, after the info session, I thought I should follow admissions advice and ask the academic advisor instead? Also regarding travel and hobbies, do we have to include this on the actual resume even though there is already a separate space for us to write this down on the application? Also, what do we write for travel, that seems kind of confusing/random?

Thank you so much for your insight @oneday_nursepoundcake !! Its great hearing about the supportive faculty and peers! I was honestly worried Columbia wouldn’t have the most supportive environment, since the cohort is so big, it seemed like it would be difficult to create these strong relationships with professors.

Thank you for responding @momo90 !! That was so helpful, and you have given me a lot to think about. I am definitely going to apply to Columbia, I am just hoping that they give scholarships or I find another way to pay for it. But if not, you are totally right, DNPs have a great starting salary, so it will pay off. The Summer sounds really intense, I hope it dials down in the coming semesters. Wishing you the best of luck and success this semester:)

Direct Entry MSN 2020 at Columbia University
Hi guys, I am applying to the MDE/DNP program for family medicine and Columbia is honestly my dream school. However, after reading all these posts in literally every single MDE Columbia forum LOL, I am starting to have a few concerns and I would really appreciate it if someone could address them... 1. First, the MDE/DNP program seems super super expensive. For those of you who are currently in the program, do you think the price is worth it? And does Columbia give a lot of scholarships or any full scholarships? Also, did Columbia reduce tuition since you guys are now online? 2. I am a new grad from a good research university, and I was just wondering how Columbia’s rigor and coursework compare to undergraduate programs? Do you guys have time for yourself, and time to participate in Columbia's extracurriculars? 3. Do you know if we have to pay extra for the global initiative's program and if that is worth it? I apologize for the number of questions I asked LOL I know it is a lot. I am just really anxious because Columbia is definitely my top school, and it is pretty much the only one I am even focusing on atm (I am applying to 5 other programs). I just want to make sure that I am making a smart decision by applying here and possibly dedicating 4 years of my life and 200k+ in loans for this degree/school.
