  1. @saramarie @PookieBaby_RN Hi! I am in the same boat, my soon to be husband just got orders to Okinawa for 3 years starting in October, while I finish my BSN in December. I had been thinking maybe I'd stay in the states for 1 year to get experience and then hopefully be able to get a nursing job over there and join him, but now reading this thread I'm wondering if that will even be worth it if it's so hard to get a job anyways. Did you end up transitioning easily enough to working as an RN @PookieBaby_RN in the states once you got back? And @saramarie is the Red Cross volunteering like using nursing scope of practice? Did you enjoy it? I had been hoping to get into working as an RN asap so I can go for my NP or CRNA sooner, but now I'm not sure what to do. Did you guys think the experience and being with your spouse was worth putting your career on hold for a few years?
  2. I haven't heard anything:/ you? I have a friend who's in the program there now and she said their classes have been postponed indefinitely and the administration just has a lot to figure out right now. Hopefully the decisions aren't too much postponed though, I have to decide whether or not to make a deposit on a different program soon.
  3. I am trying to make the same decision. I've tried working out what the cost would really be in the long run and at least for my situation, I found that going the ABSN route might be more cost-effective since I would be able to start working with a better salary sooner, and in that extra 1+ year of working I would cover more than the difference between the cost of the ADN (+ a RN-BSN after) vs the ABSN. However, I am looking at an ABSN back on the east coast where I would live at home to save money and which is only 16 months long, whereas I think the CSUSM program is 2 years right? So that would make a difference. I would suggest calculating out what the real cost of the options would be for you. I started with 0 and subtracted total costs of the program (+ 5% interest for loans), living expenses, and transportation for that time (and for the ADN options I also subtracted an average rough amount of what an RN-BSN might be after), and then added what I could potentially make during the program (since the ADN would give more time to work on the side throughout the program), plus an average RN salary for however many months I could be making it. I personally picked a point a few years from now and calculated out to that point for all my options, then compared. I applied to Grossmont and MiraCosta for my ADN options too. Hopefully everything works out for you :)
