I come from the day when there were no monitors, all postops came back at the same time(during report that was not taped and at shift change) all needed prn pain meds..had to sign out narcotics..caried 3 wings no lpn and 1 aide per wing...assessments were without monitors, pulse ox monitors, no hospitalists, no er doctors. we looked at our patients. I feel @ 64 i have made those changes gracefully....was in the ANC started my first IV in viet nam I can add without a calculator....I did not walk 5 miles to school. I have slowed my physical pace down and am semi retired...i consider myself and those women from from my day, the 60's ,Pioneers not old dawgs!!!!!!! quote " NOT ALL WOMEN FROM THE 60'S WORE LOVE BEADS "

WE HAVE REASON TO BE MORE THAN A LITTLE ALARMED. I WORKED CONTRACT AT A FACILLITY FOR A SHORT TIME ( ASSISTED LIVING FACILLITY) THEY WERE IN MY OPINION FUNCTIONING AS NURSES. THERE WERE SOME ERRORS (INSULIN) THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE IM INJECTIONS. ONE OF THE PROBLEM I SAW AND THE SCARIEST, THEY WERE COMMUNICATING BY FAX RE MRS SO AND SO IS CONGESTED....MD ACTUALLY CALLED IN RX FOR THIS URI DX BY MED TECH... THE MD'S DO NOT KNOW WHO SENT FAX...ME THINKS THEY THINKS...THEY GOT FAX FROM RN..I DID NOT STAY LONG...WORKING ON MY LISCENSE AND I REALLY DON'T THINK A LITTLE IN HOUSE TRAINING IS STRUCTURED ENOUGH. ESP WHEN RN IS NOT THERE. THINK NC DOES NOT REQ RN ON STAFF( IN GROUP HOMES AND ASSISTED LIVING...MOST ARE CONTRACT:angryfire

yes!! this is becoming quite the thing. currently in the state of nc medication techs can pass meds in an assisted living facillity...they count controlled substances, annotate on the mar and fax orders ....send out the mar for signature, write orders and send out for signature. the state does not require an rn in these facillities full time..most are contract..check the techs off....go figure...not sure how i feel about this....went to school a long time...so far i have not seen alot of structure in the progam...falls under nc facillities, i think.
