Hello, junior here As a current student I can say the interview process was intimidating, everyone's really nice and at the end of the day your competing for a spot which is about half of the interviewers give or take. One piece of advice I can offer is just be your genuine authentic self. Don't be afraid to be you and let your personality guide you throughout. There were times when people could tell if your answers to questions were sincere or reheorificed. I would also advise to already establish "Why do you want to be a nurse?" you would be surprised with nerves and pressure how you can just forget your "why". With this being said, dress nice business casual is appropriate, well groomed, hydrated (cotton mouth is real) and treat this like an interview for a job you really want and come prepared ahead of time. Things are looking different this year as interviews will most likely not be in person rather via Zoom, which in my opinion, changes the authenticity factor. There are many ways to stand out without being the elephant in the room. remember that being humble to your fellow applicants and respectful goes a long way! I would maybe play around with how Zoom works if you're unfamiliar and have a decent web camera and backdrop that doesn't distract the interviewers attention from you. Finally, please make sure your microphone works before the interview, nothing says unprepared more than when it's your time to speak and you have a technical difficulty (we've all been there for class). I agree with buffy31207, I am also a current junior in the program and the Summer/ first block of fall semester everything was simulation (VSIM) or clinical essentials with a few in person onsite clinicals at CU South campus. That being said, The CU south campus is anticipating closing its doors, so I cannot speak as to what will be augmented in lieu of those onsites we were able to get. Additionally, I am taking OB/PEDS Spring 2021, this is where things change, some groups will be divided so I can only speak for myself. I was able to have all my clinical offsites, this year even with COVID-19 I guess it depends on availability and CU relationship it has with other offsite locations. I did my MED SURG 1 rotation at the VA hospital and I am scheduled to do my PEDS at Childrens Hospital in the Spring. Some advice I can say, is our experience will be different from yours, fortunately the campus was able to use the UCAN and our cohort as beta, to work out the online difficulties so maybe, it will be smoother for you if you are accepted. Additionally, you will get most of your clinicals and experiences offsite, this is based on my experience. I didn't think didactic learning (in class) helped my ability to grasp concepts as efficiently than, being in person and hands on! I wish you all the best! Goodluck and what an exciting time.

I am in a similar position. I am currently attending a BSN program at 27 Y/O. I’ve spent a majority of my career in the military and medical field. I’ve followed Dave Ramsey’s financial planning and currently have no debt except my mortgage. The Air Force has given me much financial freedom (saving everything and investing early/smartly). I have enjoyed my time and have earned high 70’s-80’s on deployments. I considered nursing for the “purpose“ factor and not the financial aspect because, let’s face it more money doesn’t mean you will save more, unless your really disciplined and focused it won’t bring long term happiness. I’ve earned three degrees from my time in the Air Force and working on my fourth. These are fully funded as I have no student debt. I have considered advanced nursing however, my entrepreneur ventures are looking more towards owning a side business as a BSN. I think right now money is your safety net however, with the changes in economy, I believe you should look for a career that can weather the storms i.e peaks and valleys. My “purpose“ at the moment is to retire with the military (14 more years) and be able to have the freedom to work on my own terms and be independent. I believe that as a nurse you can have many options as to how you would like to work and when. If you’re truly passionate about what you do, I believe you will have the ‘purpose’ and freedom you seek. Especially for such a small timeframe to earn your RN degree. Don’t be discouraged by age, just know it is harder (physically) to start later in life. I wish you the best and only you can make the best decision for your goals.
