Urgent Care New Grad
Hi everyone! I'm a new grad, just got offered a job at an Urgent Care and wanted some advice.
Typical patient load for each provider is 3 pts/hour, there is always another senior provider at all times to consult with/ask for help when needed and I would never be in clinic as a solo provider.
He emphasised that I'm not expected to see that many pts initially and go at my pace but didn't give a strict timeline.
I also can call/text the two medical directors at any time for help/consult.
The director is also offering a day to go over suturing/I&Ds and other UC procedures. He offered a shadow day and I went earlier this week. The flow seemed pretty steady nothing too crazy. The NP I shadowed said it's a great place for new grads; the providers are supportive and the director understands the slower place new grads have in the beginning. He also offered additional shadowing a few days to get a feel for clinic flow/EMR syst. before officially starting.
I did have a urgent care rotation but didn't get a lot of opportunities for suturing/I&Ds.
My only concern is the onboarding time - there doesn't seem to be a set schedule of weeks/months for me to adjust. I feel like it might be OK since a full load is 3 pts/hr and he said about 2pts/hr should be OK in the beginning. They also have monthly QR meetings to go over interesting cases.
It seems like a good opportunity but I'm just concerned with the onboarding time or lack there of.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
