  1. It could depend on where you apply. More competitive schools may be harder because you’re up against more people. However, many schools require a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, some even a little lower, which you’re well above. Many schools also look at other aspects, such as your work and volunteer experience, essays, and interviews. Those are often more important than the GPA. I have heard of people with 4.0 GPAs being denied, and I have also heard of people with 2.9 GPAs being accepted. Just apply to multiple schools, rock your interviews and essays, and you’re bound to get in at least somewhere, if not multiple places. Good luck!
  2. At my facility, all of our open heart patients go to the Cardiovascular ICU. A lot of the other things you described are often seen in our Coronary ICU and Coronary Stepdown, depending on what else is also going on with the patients. Our Stepdown unit can be pretty difficult at times; we aren't really supposed to have more than 4 patients, but oftentimes we are short-staffed and end up with a 5:1 ratio. This isn't very safe as sometimes I have been running my butt off all night even with a 3:1 ratio, and I've actually been considering leaving my facility because of it.
